Riley Boyd has come to Willow Valley out of guilt. He's ran away from his family, job & home. He doesn't talk to anyone about his history. He found a job working for a bakery & is surprised how good he is at it. Abby McAdams is driving him crazy! They have a great friendship developing but he can't help noticing how sexy she is. He has to keep fighting these feelings or it'll ruin their friendship.
Shannyn Leah has given her readers another emotional story. The characters need to fight through their grief & learn to go on. Abby tries to hide her grief as if nothing has happened. Riley wallows in his feelings of guilt & grief. The way these two take on their journey with each other & for each other is incredible. Can Abby deal with it when Riley's past comes back to haunt him or will she turn away.? I loved the updates on the characters from previous books but feel these stories could be easily read as stand alone books.
Abby has just run out on Riley not because she doesn't love him; but because she does. She feels that she is holding him back that somehow he might resent her sometime in the future. She feels that she has done this for him. However it is breaking her heart.
At first she feels that she wants to be alone; but really she doesn't want to be alone. She wants to be around the ones she knows she can count on when all else fails. She wants to be with her sisters. The following paragraph is particularly moving, "Normally, she would remind herself of the pitiful looks that would follow from her sisters. Right now, she didn't care if the pitiful looks never ended--they were worth the comfort, the love. Kate's warm and compassionate smile was like a security blanket." This whole chapter to me is particularly moving.
And, could Abby have a more loving and true friend than Izzy Caliendo? I don't think so. The love that Abby and Izzy share is ever bit as strong as is Abby's love for her sisters and for Riley. Several times through this book and indeed in some of the previous volumes in this series Izzy demonstrates her devotion to Abby. Even when Abby would push her way Izzy stands strong in support of her friend Abby. That's the kind of friend that anyone would want. Izzy doesn't only tell Abby what she wants to hear, she tells her what she needs to hear, and she is more than willing to confront anyone who hurts Abby whether intended or not.
Izzy personally goes to confront Riley and his sister Cece. "His office door burst open. 'You stupid ass.' ... Macy popped her head in to make sure everything was good. 'Sorry Riley...she pushed her way in.' He slanted a look at Izzy. 'Pushed?' "More like kicked. She's being generous." Izzy .... turned to his sister. 'Why don't you start talking.'" .... "Izzy waited while Cece gave a quick version then stared between them. 'What the hell are we still doing here? Let's go get Abby.'" Now that is the kind of friend that everyone wants and needs. A friend that will go to the mat with you.
Now it is own to Lakeshore Lyrics.
