The hero that she left behind is now running the chain of hotels that his family owns. His father died leaving everything to him. So he has that plus the responsibility of his mother and sisters. Zizzy is the youngest. She got on my last nerve. The spoiled little rich girl that does nothing to earn her keep but has her nose in everyone's business and the family overlooks everything because she is grieving for their father! Right! NOT. So, he has his lost love in a room in his hotel and he is faced with all the hurt emotions of the past. He thinks he is over her but it doesn't look that way.
There is lots of drama as the family gathers to say goodbye to the grandmother as well as dealing with the youngest sister, Abby, who seems to be having a total breakdown. She was closest to the grandmother. She lived with her and they seemed to have a very close relationship. The H&h go back and forth as they try to overcome the past and move on. The heroine is trying to decide if she even wants to return home to the situation that is waiting for her.
I had a problem with a couple of things. It is just me, it probably doesn't even bother others but don't read any further if you think it will ruin the story for you. SPOILER. I would like to know how the heroine set up a trust fund to send her sister to college when she hasn't been working that long, has the expenses of living and who paid for her college? It wasn't her family, her dad was a handyman for the big hotel when he wasn't drunk or thinking about drinking. So that seems a stretch there. Then the hero has got to be in his late 20's or early 30's and his mother walks into his apartment without knocking and then comments on his taking a shower in the middle of the day. Do mothers today do that? That just seemed like a bit too much to me. This hero seemed to allow a lot of freedom to his family when it came to being in his personal business. That bothered me. But, it is just me. I certainly wouldn't want discourage anyone from reading the story.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
This book was so good! There are secrets by so many people. Some were there to protect loved ones. Some secrets were from malicious people. Luckily there are good people that are trying to make things right with people who have been hurt by the blackmail of Robert Caliendo. The love that Kate and Marc has is so special you can feel the heat. Their are some crazy family members that you can't help but love. I loved this book and strongly encourage you to read the book.
Kate and Marc’s story is one where that old saying of “makes your heart bled” seems very, very true. Marc was devastated when the girl he’d loved beyond reason up and left him without a word, with no contact since. He’d loved her with everything he had to give, she was his future – until she made the decision for him, against his love to simply walk away and not look back. So when Marc ran into Kate again to say there was bitterness mixed in with the sadness would not be an understatement at all. Kate had her reasons for leaving, ones that were very good ones to her mind. Secrets had made her run before. Now she had to make the decision as a more mature woman whether letting those secrets continue to rule and ruin her life was worth the loss of the man she’d never stopped loving, and the family she’d longed to reunite with.
When you read reviews or comments on stories by readers, you’ll often hear the phrase “roller coaster of emotions”… I cannot tell you just how true that feeling is for Lakeshore Secrets. It often seems that happiness is almost in reach for Kate and Marc only to see it snatched away by yet another twist or turn. It’s difficult to find a decent break for this couple. I was emotionally swept up in this romance, kept on the edge of nervousness by the secrets revealed and hopeful for an honest resolution to the past by two grown up lovers. I found this story very satisfying, very engaging and it definitely teased me enough to want to follow the rest of the series.
As a personal rule, I delete ARCs from my Kindle once I’ve finished reading and reviewing them. For those stories or series that touched me and I want to continue the journey of the rest of the story – those I will go and purchase the released e-book. I’ve purchased Lakeshore Secrets and picked up the next in the series. That’s probably the best indicator of how good I think this story is, and how this series will be entertainment wise.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.* — I’ve also purchased the released Kindle edition.
