Editorial Reviews

This work is highly original, and comes from a place that not many children's writers, since the times of C.S. Lewis, dare to venture these days.
Lysa Grant | Self-Publishing Review

Gonsalves provides a tightly written story accentuated with colorful coordinating illustrations that will surely delight the intended young audience. Although the vocabulary is slightly advanced for the targeted age group, as a retired reading teacher, I approve of the challenge presented. Young readers need to hear advanced word choices and colorful language
Lisa McCombs | Readers' Favorite (5 stars)

The artwork is colorful and eye catching. Kids will be drawn to it, whether they live in the city or reside in the countryside. This isthe essence of a simple story for children. The pictures spark interest in the story. The children around me were curious and delighted by the pictures and so wanted to read the story.
Ray Simmons | Readers' Favorite (5 stars)

Young readers will enjoy the brightly colored illustrations that seem to be hand drawn and painted. They will enjoy the imaginary world of Lamellia with mushrooms walking about and talking. They will also appreciate the fairy tale-like happy ending of the book.
Literary Titan (4 stars)

Overall, Lamellia: The Kingdom of Mushrooms is a charming picture book with some righteous messages about accepting the other, working together and celebrating difference. I'd be glad to read it to any child.

From the Author

About three years ago, I saw a big brown mushroom during a walk in the forest of the Siebengebirge, Germany. Thereafter I began paying attention to mushrooms, especially during autumn. One day, I thought why not write a story involving mushrooms. I continued observing mushrooms while walking in the Usambara Mountains, Tanzania. During a holiday in Austria, I photographed mushrooms and visited a mushroom museum for further inspiration.

Written for children and those not limited by genres, the book serves as an avenue to connect with nature and encourages discussion with adults. The story also aims at fostering kindness, tolerance and acceptance in children by highlighting nature's selfless gifts.

On the illustrations, it is my standard practice to involve children in the illustrations for my books. However, for this book I took a different approach. This decision was influenced by the scenes herein, which I found challenging to coordinate children's skills.  So I reached out to a young adult, Nikki Ngombe, who wishes to establish a profile as an illustrator.
