Would give these a 4.5 star overall.
I am a professional cook and I love these knife safes - for the most part. I have purchased 6 of them so far and all but one has been great. I did get one that does not quite latch shut enough to keep the blade inside totally imobile. It isn't a huge deal, but it does bug me a little when I gather up my knives and one of them is rattling around a little bit in the knifesafe.
Also, I have searched high and low and have not been able to find one larger than 10 inches for my 11-inch slicer. Kind of sucks, I would like to ditch the cheap plastic sheath I have for that in favor of one of these.

Needing to transport a single knife (my 8" Chef Knife) to classes or other homes for use, I was looking for safe transport alternatives. The KnifeSafe product works tremendously. When the product snaps shut, there are little rubber feet on both sides of the case that grab onto the blad of the knife in two spots. When this happens, the knife doesn't move *at all* inside of the case. Because the case itself is very lightweight and is only a little bit larger than the size of the knife, it makes transport easy in any improvised carrying cases (briefcase, laptop bag, backpack, etc.) for those that don't have a chef's knife bag. I am quite pleased with this purchase and it has worked very reliably for me to this point.

This product does not fit a Misono 10" chef's knife. The knife is actually about 10 7/8 inches from tip to bolster, and the KnifeSafe is about 10 1/4 inches. Be sure to measure your knife before purchasing.

It's just a tad bulky, but highly adaptable to different sized knives within its' range, and holds the blade quite securely.

Ideal use for this item is picnicking or camping, it is washable and will definitely keep the edge from getting dinged up if packed in "kitchen gear" and will protect anyone from being inadvertently cut.

Inexpensive piece of mind, way less expensive than replacing a chewed up edge or hospital bills.....I don't need more right now, but am thinking one or two in the 6" size and 10" size would be a good idea.

I bought this as I hate blocks and my knife drawer was getting a bit crowded. I have a couple of nice knives and I didn't want the blades to get dinged up in the drawer. This was the perfect solution. I bought 3 of them, one for my 10 inch and 2 for my 8 inch knives. I haven't experienced any of the issues that other posters have. They hold the knife securely and protect the blade. What more could you ask?

I received a nice knife for Christmas and wanted to find something better for it than a knife block. This brand was recommended by Alton Brown in a book, and I can see why. It offers good protection of my blade from nicks and dings, and protection of myself from any accidental contact.

Pros: The plastic is durable and sturdy and shows no signs of wear despite use, and placing in a shared drawer. It has a small curve so that the tang of the blade can only go in one way - away from the hinges, which protects its owner from opening it straight into the hands.

Cons: Occasionally the rubber feet lose their grip. It's somewhat inconsistent, and I haven't figured out a pattern. The rubber can also put small marks on your blade, but to me that's not a major concern.

Overall I give it 4 stars in light of its good functionality for its chosen task, as well as the safety aspect of a unidirectional knife position. I took one off just because it will occasionally move, and the blade can make contact with the interior.

We are using to cover a long knife used to cut shims, sometimes called a windshield knife,. It has a screw-in utility blade and is kept in a tool bag. We are using to cover the blade and the 1/4" thick shaft down to its round handle. As the KnifeSafe is designed to cover a 10" chef knife, we had to remove the pads to accomodate the 1/4" shaft. Fits very tight when snapped together so the long knife cannot slip. The manufacturer of the long knife does not make a sheath for this product as they offer many different styles of blade. Covering it securely saves removing the blade after use.

These work excellent. No problems after 2 years of use. Only slight drawback is that they're a little bulky.
