Editorial Reviews

Join Littlefoot, Cera, Spike, Ducky, Petrie and shy newcomer Ali on their most exciting adventure ever! It's an all-new, song-filled, animated classic on the continuing story of The Land Before Time. A herd of migrating Longnecks has important news of weather changes in the regions beyond the Great Valley. What was once dry land has become "The Land of Mists". Strange new creatures have begun to appear in these rainy marshes, while still others have moved into the high trees from which the Longnecks used to feed. Fortunately, the Great Valley is as beautiful as ever. There's no need to brave the wetlands - until Littlefoot's Grandpa becomes ill. His one hope is to eat the healing petals of a golden Night Flower that only grows...in the Land of Mists! Now it's up to Littlefoot and his prehistoric pals to explore the swamps, outwit sly new villains and find the Night Flowers in time to save Grandpa. Along the way, the kids will learn some loving lessons about teamwork, cooperation, and most important of all: that it's great to have friends of all kinds, in all shapes and sizes. Sparkling with delightful songs, dazzling animation and a heartwarming story, The Land Before Time: Journey Through the Mists celebrates the power of embracing the differences that make each of us truly special!

Journey into the Mists captivated both my children (3 and 5 years old), my wife and me. It is a story of courage, acceptance of others (hence the song "It takes all kinds"), and family ties. This movie is based upon the original Land Before Time video and is yet another sequel in this very popular series.
In this story, Little Foot meets another small long neck named Allie. Allie is afraid of other dinosaurs because she has only been among other long necks. As part of a band of migrating long necks, she and her family come into the Great Valley while fleeing their former home, which has become a misty swamp that they now derisively call "The Land of Mists." After their arrival, Grandpa Longneck faill mysteriously ill and the migratory long necks identify his malady and proscribe a cure - a plant that only grows in the Land of Mists. Little Foot wants to go to find the mysterious plant, and he needs Allie's help. Allie refuses, however, to go unless Little Foot's friends do not come along.
Herein lies the most positive part of this tale - Allie must get over her fear of other dinosaurs if she is to be of help to Little Foot and the others. She has to learn that accept and work with those who are different from herself.
The story resolves, and the children learn valuable lessons. This story also includes a couple of very funny villians who are constantly telling each how worthless they are. These two cracked us up, but their constant bantering and bickering might be a little over the top for very small children. My two laughed and laughed for hours on end. We found that it was important to explain that this behavior is inappropriate and this is why it is funny.

This underrated sequel is obviously the best of the movies in the series. The trouble with this movie is that with all the "I HATE THIS MOVIE" hubbub, and the "I LOVE THE SIXTH MOVIE" hubbub, you'd think that this movie was a crime. The Land Before Time 6 was a failure because it tried to make the characters( especially Ducky and Littlefoot )more mature, and failed miserably. But, in this underrated classic, none of the characters are out of character, like in the 6th movie. Let me give you a summary about this movie. Okay, here goes nothin'...

Littlefoot, Cera, and the gang play some fun games. In the middle of playing "Hide and Seek", Littlefoot meets another young apatosaurus named Ali, who he befriends right away. When he and Ali come back, Ducky notices that there are "two Littlefoots". Ali is shy, so she and Littlefoot walk away. Cera and the others laugh and mock Ali. Then, one night, Grandpa feels very ill, and collapses. The Old One, oldest and wisest of the longnecks, says that the cure for his disease is found in The Land Of Mists( Ali's folks were forced out of their original homes ). Littlefoot and Ali decide to venture off to the Mists to help Grandpa. Next morning, Littlefoot's friends can't find him anywhere. Where did he go? They don't know, until they find out that he and Ali have ventured off to The Land Of Mists. They decide to go there and find Littlefoot. But two sinister predators, Ichy and Dil, are on the prowl...

An amazing piece of work. This movie marks the first( and hopefully not last )appearance of Ali the apatosaurus, Tickles the megazostrodon, Ichy the avimimus, and Dil the deinosuchus.

this is a great movie - and i love it. it's the best adventure yet. the songs are not annoying, like in the other movies. the story plot is great, and the lesson taught deals with one of the biggest issues ever - racism and accepting each other's differences. 'grandma's lullaby' is fantastic, though 'it takes all sorts' isn't so hot. the night flower scene is beautiful, and if you hate the bad guys, then hate them. they're not the centre of attention in the movie; you know. they're portrayed as mean because they are bad, and bad people are usually mean. they're bad guys, okay? don't expect bad guys to be nice to each other. besides, the film does not portray being MEAN as being successful, as you will see in the end, when the bad guys get just as they deserve. this film, unlike the other movies, actually has some suspense, so it's not good only for children. and if you have a problem against the bad guys being a bird and a crocodile instead of sharpteeth, TOUGH LUCK. it's a nice change of species, since not all enemies of the dinosaurs were other dinosaurs. and this does not mean non-dinosaurs are baddies. the mouse is their friend.

I don't know why I waited so long to buy this series of DVD's! My kids absolutely LOVE them. I had never watched any of these when they first came out on VHS tapes, and am thoroughly enjoying watching all of them with my children. If you don't have the Land Before Time series on DVD, you should get them & add them to your collection.
