Gr 3–7—Twins Alex and Connor, along with Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, Mother Goose, and other characters chase a masked man—the twins' uncle—into stories such as The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland. He is always a step ahead and bargains for troops to take over the kingdoms in the fairy world. Alex and Connor wind up separated in the stories of King Arthur and Robin Hood, needing to create a potion and get back to Oz. Peter Pan and the Tin Woodman join the adventures. Several subplots add depth to the narration—a girl finding genetic links to Wilhelm Grimm, Red Riding Hood marrying the Frog Prince, and a witch who takes life's energy from children. Colfer's narration is excellent, giving different voices to the many characters and keeping the pace of the rollicking story moving. VERDICT Adults will appreciate references to Hans Christian Andersen and other classic tales, while children will just appreciate good stories on their own terms.—Debbie Whitbeck, formerly of West Ottawa Public Schools, Holland, MI --This text refers to the Preloaded Digital Audio Player edition.
Colfer has a real skill for crafting stories and every chapter was packed with action, emotion and adventure. He is equally skilled at creating memorable characters and has breathed new life into old favourites like Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and Little Bo Peep by giving them interesting story arcs and well-rounded personalities ... A Grimm Warning is a completely absorbing read that had me hooked from the first page. The Bookbag Children will engage with Colfer's bubbly writing style and become hooked on the characters and lost in their adventures. This genre of writing never loses its charm, and in The Land of Stories, Colfer has secured the following of a new generation of fairytale fans. Teaching English (Primary Matters) The perfect mix of adventure, misery, humour and romance ... pure genius! The Sunday Mail (Australia) There is more in Colfer's magic kingdoms than Disney has dreamt of USA Today --This text refers to the Preloaded Digital Audio Player edition.

“The Land of Stories” is a world full of magic and excitement. We get to spend time with our favorite fairytale characters – but we get to know them on an entirely new level. And new characters that Colfer introduced to us instantly become our best friends. I look forward to reading and spending time with Alex and Conner – and you’ll never find a character more uniquely wonderful than Froggy.
Whenever I begin reading these books, I am instantly pulled in, and it takes every bit of strength within me to set them down. I find myself staying up reading well past the point of exhaustion merely so I don’t have to leave this magical world. Each chapter leaves me wanting more, and each story has ended with such an intense cliffhanger that my jaw literally drops every time. Now that I’ve been part of this world, I daresay I never want to leave it. It is so easy to understand how Alex and Conner feel about this world, about their adventures. Because when I read these stories I get to become part of this world and experience these adventures alongside them. And they are some of the greatest moments of my life.
Chris Colfer has a true gift for writing. We know from watching him on Glee that he can sing and dance and act, but I believe that his role on Glee was just a small part of helping him reach his greater purpose. Colfer was put on this Earth to inspire us. Through his bravery, his kindness, and his amazing ability to tell a story, he has done just that.
I will keep reading these books as long as he keeps writing them. And I highly recommend you do the same.
This book is about Alex and Conner’s uncle, who wants to take over, destroy and burn everything in the fairy world, and how Alex and Conner try to prevent this from happening. So, they follow their uncle into many other stories like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and many more. They need to stop there uncle from making his army bigger with all the evil characters from these different stories.
I really loved this story because of all the adventurous times that they all had.
Once I started reading this book, I didn’t want to put it down. There are parts in the book that make your heart race and you actually feel like your in the book.
I would recommend this book to all the people that love an adventurous, fantasy, action filled book or a really great book in general. The Land of Stories is a great series to read.
I loved this story, maybe a little more than the last two. It moves pretty quickly, taking us from the US to Germany to England to Paris back to Germany and finally to the Land of Stories where the twins are finally reunited. (The idea that the Bailey twins were separated at the end of the last book was hugely upsetting for my 10-year-old!)
But the cliff hanger!!! Oh my goodness!!! What a cliff hanger!!! Since finishing, my daughters have spent every spare moment discussing, analyzing, and trying to figure out where Chris Colfer could possibly be going next. A fun read for all!!!
As a mom, I grew up reading fantasy and science fiction, getting lost in stories of other worlds...and I have to give Chris Colfer a huge round of applause for his dedication to all those beloved authors who came before him!
