The bowl is thin, yes, but it stands up to the intense heat very well. The only reason I'm on here looking is that the grate has warped and thinned badly after all this time, so I was seeing if I could get a replacement. The bowl is a bit banged up, but the base is still in great shape. As for the bowl, I like that it is thin and lightweight. It's easy to just carry the whole thing into the woods to dump the ashes. Since it is often "ash soup" after a rain, I'll drop it from 3-4 feet in the air to knock the ashes out - of course mine is dented. If you are more careful, it won't be quite so banged up. And it does bend back into shape easily. I love that it is copper. I wouldn't trust an iron pit. It would rust out in no time.
The grate does get rusty (we're in the humid northeast) and deforms over time from the heat. That's the only downside. Mine will soon become unusable. But I can hardly fault it. Remember 9 years. Heavy use. I think that's reasonable. Wish I could find a replacement, though.
I guess I should knock off a star for the cover. It rusted out in the first year. I wouldn't use it if I did buy a replacement, though. I think it is one of those things that sounds like a good idea, and you "think" you need it, but you really don't. Of course, those who live in areas where forest fires are a significant problem may disagree. I would recommend storing the cover inside if you want to keep it around and live in a humid environment.
Additional note: It is now 3 years later and we still love this fire pit! We just put it away about a month ago (we had unseasonably warm weather in December) and will eagerly wait for Spring to start using ir again. It still looks great -- the inside of the copper bowl is darkened, but everything else is still good. Love it!

Seems so much larger and robust in the photo. Not really worth the $$$. I should of bought the one at my local OSH. For $80 more it is much much better in size and quality.Published 14 months ago by Scooter Rider
The fire pit looked great. After first time moisture from morning dew got on it, the fire screen started rusting. It is now heavily coated with rust. The copper bowl is fine. Read morePublished 18 months ago by Bic
Excellent for sitting outside with a fire to warm everyone!Published 19 months ago by Jeff Shinsato
Nothing actually wrong, it's just a low quality product. Don't expect it to last more than a couple seasons.
The bowl easily deforms under hand pressure.
I was shopping for a copper bowl because I was tired of buying 2 steel ones every season because they rust out. I jumped at this buy! Read morePublished on May 25, 2013 by V
