This is our second unit. The first one lasted outside, used at least 75 times a year for 7 years. This is a very sturdy, safe fire pit. The bowl is high enough off the deck that we have used a bbq mat from Ace hardware and the deck does not even get warm to the touch underneath. The opening screen is the only way to go, it makes loading safe ( no hot screen swinging around ), and easy. We just bought the new one because the copper stared to get a little thiner than I liked, and the steel grate was warped after some rather large fires. Good Stuff, very happy with this unit.

We've had this fire pit for about 9 years, with very heavy use for the last 4 years. We live in the woods, I love that it makes cleaning up the fallen branches a lot less miserable knowing that the results of our labor is a nice evening by the fire. I even rigged up a support to hold a bbq grill grate over it, and frequently use it for summer cookouts.

The bowl is thin, yes, but it stands up to the intense heat very well. The only reason I'm on here looking is that the grate has warped and thinned badly after all this time, so I was seeing if I could get a replacement. The bowl is a bit banged up, but the base is still in great shape. As for the bowl, I like that it is thin and lightweight. It's easy to just carry the whole thing into the woods to dump the ashes. Since it is often "ash soup" after a rain, I'll drop it from 3-4 feet in the air to knock the ashes out - of course mine is dented. If you are more careful, it won't be quite so banged up. And it does bend back into shape easily. I love that it is copper. I wouldn't trust an iron pit. It would rust out in no time.

The grate does get rusty (we're in the humid northeast) and deforms over time from the heat. That's the only downside. Mine will soon become unusable. But I can hardly fault it. Remember 9 years. Heavy use. I think that's reasonable. Wish I could find a replacement, though.

I guess I should knock off a star for the cover. It rusted out in the first year. I wouldn't use it if I did buy a replacement, though. I think it is one of those things that sounds like a good idea, and you "think" you need it, but you really don't. Of course, those who live in areas where forest fires are a significant problem may disagree. I would recommend storing the cover inside if you want to keep it around and live in a humid environment.

This is a great purchase. It is beautiful to look at especially as the copper changes color after burning wood in it. Very sturdy.

We have had this fire pit for about a month now and have had fires in it several times already. We have cooked sandwiches and pies in pie irons and toasted marshmallows, and of course, just sat and watched the flames dancing in the night. We live in Ohio and the evenings are cool enough to enjoy the fire. Since we leave this sitting on our contrete patio at all times, I did drill holes in the bottom of the copper bowl with a masonry bit to allow water to drain out. And I particularly wanted one that had a screen that you could open to add more wood. Much easier than trying to remove a hot screen. This is a sturdy and attractive fire pit. We plan on using it until winter and then will store it in the garage.

Additional note: It is now 3 years later and we still love this fire pit! We just put it away about a month ago (we had unseasonably warm weather in December) and will eagerly wait for Spring to start using ir again. It still looks great -- the inside of the copper bowl is darkened, but everything else is still good. Love it!

First of all, I will admit that this is my very first firepit, so keep that in mind when considering my review. I decided to purchase this product for several reasons: 1. Based on the 5 5-star reviews here at Amazon 2. I wanted a copper pit for some aesthetic reasons 3. I thought the idea of a swiveling screen was nice. Okay, the pit works, first of all. However, we are using it on a wooden deck and I can promise you that you will need to place something under it to protect the deck from heat. I went to Lowe's and purchased 4 16" porcelain floor tiles to make a big square under it, and then right in the middle, I placed a 14" square 2" think concrete paver. That, or something similar, is what you will need to protect your wooden deck from heat. Now, I do not feel that I got nearly $150 worth of product in this pit! I wish I had shopped at Lowes or Home Depot first because they have some really nice looking pits for $160 down to $130. One they had was inset inside a square 'table' where you could prop your feet up on to get your toes 'toasty' warm. My biggest complaint with this product, however, is the screen. The screen mesh is too coarse to catch anything but the biggest of flying embers. But, it is very flimsy in construction and the least bump around the bottom ring will warp it (mine came out of round out of the box) and then it won't 'fit' on the inner ledge of the fire pit properly. After a couple of tries, we decided it wasn't even worth using and have cast it to the side! Well, there goes one main reason for choosing this pit. My advice is don't be totally taken in by the photos and favorable reviews because this pit is worth $100 at most.
