Once together this looks very nice and is a sturdy desk. The assembly was really a marathon and it comes in a surprising number of pieces for something that looks pretty simple from the pic. I might have given this 4 or 5 stars if I hadn't assembled it or tried to move it myself.

First, there is one enormous flaw in the design... the directions call for glue in just about all steps so in theory the thing isn't supposed to come apart once you get it together. That would be fine except the hutch is screwed to the desk from the underside of the desk. That means you cannot move this by taking it apart first and this weighs almost 200 pounds.

Second, moving this thing is hard because there are zero places to hold it while moving it. As a result I really had to drag it across my carpet. While the thing is built to carry a big load vertically it has only one piece of particle board holding the under-cabinets together under the desktop so it isn't built to be stretched at all like it would be while dragging it across carpet. It felt like it was about to break when I was dragging it. Once this is on a smooth surface it glides on it's plastic pads like a champ so that is probably important to consider.

Overall I like it but I am quite concerned about ever having to move it from it's current resting place.

I went to my local office depot store & they price matched this. In store it was $249.99. When I got it home & opened it up & laid out all the parts I knew I was in for a long project. Thy have you put the hutch together first & tat took about 3 hours myself to finish. In step 18 they want you to put the desktop panel on the hutch with cam locks & bolts then put 2 screws in. I did not use screws as i want the desk to more movable if ever need be (The hutch can be removed from the desktop). Then in step 45 they want you you to put the hutch/desktop on to the base, this where i pu the desktop on the base without the hutch since in step 18 i did not attach the desktop top to the hutch. Then i tightened the cam locks They want you to put glue in the desktop whee he pegs will g to hold the the hutch to the desktop, this i also skipped since i want the hutch to be removable. I went to my local Walmart & got a pack of bulldog "T" brackets and used those by the monitor opening on he back & screwed he hutch to the desktop. Now if I need to move it & i can easily removes the screws from he bracket & lift off he hutch. i did miss the hanging files spleen but a simple call to the 800 number got the parts on order. This desk is very sturdy and well put together. The hutch took about 3-4 hours for me to build myself. The next night I had a helper to to put the bottom together & that was about 6 hours long to do. Please note the computer is supposed to be on the inside on the left, however i put mine on the floor next to the desk as it is a custom build and there is no ventilation in the desk except the cables holes. There is no keyboard hole in the back of the desk so I used a 1 inch bit & drilled hole in the back wood panel to allow my keyboard cable to go though. You will not need to do this if your computer is in the cabinet as it has a hole on the side under the keyboard tray.

My wife did most of the work assembling this for our son. I only had to swoop in at the end (swooping's not as bad as some folks make it out to be...looking at you, Alistair), and do the drawers. But this was after a couple hours spread out over a couple evenings of work by her and the boy. Desk seems solid and functional once assembled, though. No missing or broken parts, either.

We bought this desk about 8 months ago, but I wanted to see how it held up before reviewing. We have been really impressed with the quality we got for the low price of this desk. My 11 year old wanted a desk with more storage than his previous one had. We ordered this one and have been thrilled with the desk. It took a few hours to put together, but feels like a quality piece of furniture and NOT some assemble at home deal. The drawers have stayed smooth and easy to use despite taking a beating daily. I would absolutely buy this again or recommend it to a friend.

My husband put this together in about 3 hours and thought it was simple enough. The desk looks quite nice. It is very well designed so there is room for files, books, knicknacks and photos, and all the various office stuff.
OfficeMax delivery was awesome. I live over the coastal hills from Silicon Valley. The delivery van came in the morning after I made the order. I wasn't here so they returned in the afternoon. Now that's service!

Although I wood prefer solid wood desk, this composite desk is pretty well made and sturdy, to my surprise. Very heavy, took over 2 hours to put together due to the amount of parts for both hutch and desk, require my wife to help me lift hutch onto to desk, very cramp hands from all the screwing of parts.

Desk arrived damaged and unusable. If it had been intact, I think it would have had ample storage and would have had a decent appearance for a cheap pressboard desk. It is flimsy and delicate, with a hollow surface (which I know, since mine is split in half), but once together should be okay for light use. Assembly is involved (tried to put together what I could while waiting for a replacement part which has been "back ordered" for several months at this point), but fairly straightforward. It should probably take one person an afternoon to put together. I will update if I ever have a usable desk.
