Landscape Design Combinations by Lee Miller is that garden compass you've been looking for. It helped me take those first steps in the right direction with confidence. Inside the book, you will find an introduction to the elements of garden design, how to give your garden a foundation with evergreens and a simple guide to combining colors. Sometimes I find myself standing in my local gardening center, overwhelmed by all of the choices and options around me. I start asking myself these questions: "Where do I start? If I purchase that plant, where should I put it? Will that tree or shrub really look good in my landscape?" What kind of flowers will work well together? If you have asked yourself any of these questions, this book is definitely for you. It will guide you through designing for the seasons while keeping your landscape looking fresh and lush. I believe this is one of the most comprehensive, educational, and versatile books I have ever read or seen on landscape design. As a landscaper/gardener of 20 years, I can honestly say there are few blogs, books and websites that get my attention and makes me want revisit their site over and over or actually purchase a book in search of something original and new. Lee Miller gives a fresh take on her use of plant combinations that can only be acquired through years of study and practice. She has successfully combined some of the most stunning foliage and color combinations I have ever seen in all my years of doing landscaping. Most books that deal with landscaping/gardening only seem to show you how to combine perennials that take the same lighting conditions (sun or shade) with different bloom times and then touch on shrubs and trees as individual topics. What I have found with Lee Millers books is that she shows you how to accomplish a harmonious planting scheme by combining trees, shrubs, and perennials all while focusing on texture, color, blooms, shape (weeping, upright, etc...), plant size, lighting conditions, and hardiness. On top of all of that, she presents this complex thought process in an easy to read book in a concise teaching. Thanks Lee for all of the mental focus you put into this book and your first book......I have them both. You are a true artist and teacher!

The book provides step by step directions, with labeled photos that correspond with the names of plants. It is broken down into different sections for example, sun and shade gardens color and foliage combinations, perennial combinations, designing with evergreens, hardscape design, plants resistant to deer, all with photos plant names and descriptions. It also has plants for specific zones. If you are a novice or seasoned gardener, and you want to plan a new garden or add to your existing garden, this book is the only one you need, it has it all!!

After some extensive home renovations most of our foundation plantings were destroyed. We knew we wanted some larger evergreens to start but we also wanted the beds filled with colorful perennials. Not really sure where to start, we picked up a copy of Lee Miller's Landscape Design Combinations. Everything we needed to know we found in this book. It became an invaluable tool as we worked through our project. Living in the country we have issues with the deer dining on our plantings but there is a section of the book dedicated to just that. We also love having large planters on our decks and patios and there is a whole section devoted to creating just the perfect combinations for all the different areas of our yard. If you want beautiful gardens and need some help getting started or just want to create some great combinations I would highly recommend this new book. It will not disappoint. Bravo Lee Miller!

There are lots of examples of beautiful landscape designs, even container plant combinations, that you can use to beautify your own property. The information is clear and you don't need a degree in horticulture to understand the concepts. I have read a lot of landscaping books over the years and this one is, by far, the most practical and useful. Highly recommend.
