When a genetic mutation caused a near-collapse of the colony, survivors reverted to baseline genetics. Modified humans face ostracism, persecution, or worse.

Far above the planet, Ceres lives alone on a giant space station, with no knowledge of why she is the station's only inhabitant, and unaware of the colonists on the surface below. Her only companion is the habitat's artificial intelligence, an inscrutable machine that relentlessly trains Ceres in the station's myriad functions, but won't—or can't—say why.

When Max and Ceres inadvertently contact one another, they trigger the same chain of events that nearly wiped out the colony a generation earlier. Together the girls must race to discover the true cause of the original catastrophe, and fight to prevent it from happening again.

This book was great. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into but before I could figure out I was going to like it I was heading on a great adventure from two different fronts. I didn’t want to put it down because I wanted to know what would come next. I couldn’t expect any of it, start to finish. Conceptually sound drawing from science, mythology, and philosophy to leave you wondering while also reminding you of what growing up really is to someone. This book reads a lot like Andy Weir’s Artemis and Sylvian Neuvel’s Themis Files with a great strong female lead(s) on a futuristic setting where technology is both your friend and your foe. I hope more comes from Ted Boone. Lastly, I would also thank Marisa for the nudge, or I’d have never read this.

I loved the storyline! I usually don't like sci-fi but this one was so absolutely intriguing! I loved how the end ended with a half - cliffhanger and it makes me want to read more and more! I CANNOT WAIT for the next book! The sublime writing made me want to keep reading 24/7. When I started reading the preview I was captivated so I begged my mom to get me the book! I can't stress how I want the next book to come badly enough! The two perspectives of the story along with extraordinary writing makes the story run so smoothly and you can never get bored. It's never boring. Not even the beginning, where, in some books, the beginning starts out boring. This one is packed with action and adventure and is the whole bundle!

This is a great book! The story immediately brought me in and I couldn't put it down. I loved that the two lead characters are two smart and independent young women. their individual stories lead you to get attached to each of them as they develop, and I wanted to know more about them after I finished the book. The story has a great pace and keeps you interested the entire time. I also really enjoyed the unerlying messages throughout the book that made it connect to our lives. It makes you think about what it really means to be a human, as wells as our relationship and interaction with technology. I'll definitely be reading this again!

Langford’s Leap is light years ahead of its time (yes, pun intended). As an avid reader I can say that I was intrigued and sucked into the world that Ted Boone created. The imagery and syntax was the perfect mix for young adults advancing their reading level and adults wanting to escape into literally a new world in this sci-fi novel. I’m in awe of the creativity it took to create this book and would highly recommend everyone who can get their hands on it to read it. I can’t wait to read more of Mr. Boone’s work!
P.S. great book to cuddle up with your dog and wait out the rain storms

I found Ted Boone’s first novel to be as fresh and welcome as last year’s Hugo award nominee Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty and as deliciously dystopian as Bradburys’ classic short story There Will Come Soft Rains. Boone whisks the reader off to a new planet where two young heroines are separately trying to solve the mystery of their past. Something has gone wrong, the colony is barely surviving, but maybe the two of them can save what’s left. It’s a page turner and by the end, you will be rooting for these two fast friends to save the only lives they know.

I don't usually read in this genre. Other worlds are not typically my thing, as I often have trouble keeping up with places and characters when they are other-worldly. But I tried this book because I know the author, and I read it in one day. I loved the imagination behind it. I loved the spirit of the characters. And I could see what the author was describing. It makes me want to be more willing to read outside of my normal type of book. It certainly makes me want the followup ASAP.

The leads in this book are all female, determined, very smart and caring at the same time. They are not deterred by what was or should be; they make their own way. The father is loving and supportive of Max's hopes and dreams. I hope there is a follow up so we can see how the characters develop and how much Langford's Leap grows!
