5.0 out of 5 starsA hidden gem with a lot of rough edges.
Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2016
Cause this doesn't get enough love here's a five star. I've heard of reviews about the Japanese version and I while I was concerned I decided to order it anyways, and while it does have its faults it's a rough gem in it's own right. So here's my pros and cons about the game.

Pros:
-its dynamic story has branching paths within paths
-character art is top good quality
-story is ambiguous (in a good way) and your left wondering who's faction is the "right" faction.
-relationship progression with your teammates and your main character is up to how your dialogue choices before fights with whom ever you decide to talk too.
-your able to mold your stater with a series of questions to determine your class your attributes and your skills at the start
-music was beautiful
-mercenary system is pretty cool how they fight at full potential within zoc (zone of control) of their commanders.
-"unwinable" fights are winnable but really hard and worth the victory if you can figure it out

Cons:
-"A" button is the return or exit button and "B" is the forward or enter button (took me awhile to get past the main menu cause I didn't realize I was exiting and entering the main menu)
-maps are humongous and apperently items are found lying around but I've only found one item ever, you fight on nice looking maps but you take forever getting your units from point "A" to point "B"
-turns are individual for each unit including the enemy, so you can't just move all your units and end turn and expect the enemy to move all of their units and end turn.
-path choices are ambiguous had no idea where I what I was getting into
-3D fights are chibi if that's not your thing like it isn't mine then turn it off and never worry about it again also speeds up turns
-turns are long when enemy's come at you in large force and your stuck waiting on 5 enemies to go for you to move one unit then 5 other enemy units to move right after.
-shop was pretty bare it mentions consumables but still haven't seen any sold yet
-no saving during battles

Out of ten I'd give this a 7.5 it's no fire emblem fates but it has its own potential and while it has its faults it really isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Just realize that this game probably didn't have anywhere near the same budget as fire emblem does. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised if you ever get to play this rough gem.

1.0 out of 5 starsA really bad turn based SRPG
Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2016
Normally I like to take some chances with games that look interesting. Langrisser I thought looked promising I did some bare bones research saw a couple of screenshots and it all seemed fine.

So let's cut to the day it arrives I go ahead and start it up. the opening cinematic didn't have the best animation quality The protagonist's hair looked pretty odd I felt I could get over that because its a SRPG I expect some weird hair.

So i get into the first mission again the art looks like its was make for the nintendo DS.Also was really surprised at the lack of background information. I get that that some games can get by telling one that information as one plays but this game has a lot of characters and factions so it would have been nice to get some form of information to start with. any how I got in to the actual game play. I not going to go into a lot of details here. Just know if you have ever played a turn based rpg you should get the gist of how it plays. It feels like the fire emblem games on the gba of course with some variations on combat rules.

Up to this point I was barely okay with this game It didn't seem to have the best quality but I didn't think that be a problem in the long run. It was at that point I sent a unit to attack an enemy unit. I thought for a moment I get to see some decently drawn fighting animations. NOPE IT TURNED INTO CHIBI FIGHTING! The problem with this enlies in the fact that it is a stark dichotomy to the serious nature this game tries to project. Also the animation on this chibi fighting isn't all that good either ( I encourage going to view a video of the fighting sequences)just some bad animations quality. This for me was the straw that broke the camels back because I realized if I continued playing I'd have to watch this atrocious fighting animation over and over and I just cant say that would be enjoyable at all.

Just steer clear of this pile of excrement and save yourself $30. Because there is so much better you can buy game wise with $30.

VINE VOICE
4.0 out of 5 stars If You Like Old-School Games, This Is Great!
Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2016

This game is not that bad, even though people gave it bad reviews. Don't go into it thinking you're getting another Fire Emblem game, it's very different. The best way to describe it is an old PS1 title that you try on a whim and it's simple but very engaging. A game I would compare it to is Crystal Warriors on Game Gear but a little more involved.

Some tips that will make your gameplay experience better is to turn off the battle sequences and the voice acting. The reason I disliked the voices is that they were in Japanese and very loud. The music is great and I love the explosions when killing enemies. I also like the simple sprites, and the rock paper scissors system. And the ridiculous art for some of the female characters is so revealing it's actually fun and funny to see.

The game is basically work on a party by hiring mercenaries, and then fight your way through the levels trying to meet different goals like escape or make sure you kill everyone. The story is basic, but interesting to me.

If you're an old-school gamer, you will appreciate this. If you want Fire Emblem clones, then this is not for you.

Also, I got my game today on 7-6-16 and it came with the art book and CD soundtrack still. I've been playing it while I work for about 8 hours and cannot put it down! It reminds me of getting random bargain bin PS1 games for cheap and being happy to just kill time and learn a new system that's pretty familiar.

4.0 out of 5 stars Langrisser Re: Incarnation Tensei... It could be better.
Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2016

Langrisser is not a Fire Emblem game they look similar at a glance but are two different entities though I enjoy both franchises I don't find them to be interchangeable. If you have played a Langrisser game before it's essentially the same, class changes, branching story with a few extras. The confession system can be used to improve relationships with members of your army between chapters which makes them stronger during battles when fighting close to the main character.

Some of the things I disliked are that there is no way to save your game during chapters which can last hours. Though I don't mind the battle animations, I do agree with the majority that they could be better. I take more issue with the lack of different units which makes it feel like you're watching the same fight over and over again. Although, there is an option to turn off battle animations altogether. It's also worth mentioning there is no 3d.

What I would suggest is finding a way to try before you buy or at least play one of the previous installments of Langrisser (my suggestion: Der Langrisser, or Warsong, if you can't find the former in english) to get an idea if this is a game you might enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Warsong" 25 Years Later
Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2016

I'm not too far into the game (4 scenarios) but I have to really wonder what all these reviewers are complaining about? I'm in my 40's and love old gaming franchises that get brought back. On the the Sega Genesis back in 1991 there was a particular game called Warsong. Warsong is what the Mega Drive Langrisser was called in North America. It's an anime style strategy RPG. From my experience of playing Warsong in the early 90's I was able to jump right into this game and enjoy it. If anything this game is a direct throwback to that series of games. The animation for the actual combat is a bit lacking with the little chibi soldiers attacking each other... If this had been done a little better I'd have given this 5 stars. The game 25 years its senior wins in that regard.
Over all I really like the game. If you bought this expecting Final Fantasy-esque cut scenes and combat animation you'll be disappointed. For me? It's surprisingly close to what I expected from a strategy RPG on a hand held system, moving pieces on a map to complete objectives using terrain, statistics, and specialties.

4.0 out of 5 stars Take another look

I read all the reviews about how "not great" it is. I bought it anyways and honestly, after the first hour I enjoyed the game quite a lot. The game mechanics takes some getting used to but this game is FOR FANS of the series. Don't even waste your time if you don't know what Langrisser is. If you do and want to explore more of the games world then I would recommend this. Especially if you play the mobile version. I'm also an older adult so I like that I can just set it down and pick it back up casually. Its easy and does not ask or expect a lot from the player. I enjoyed the conversation aspect a lot!

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Horrible!!!

Absolutely horrible!!! Worst, and I mean WORST!! SRPG I have ever played in my entire life. Out of all the SRPG's I have played, this definitely beats the bunch as the worst one. It's quite sad as I am an indie developer and I love many games in the indie scene and I must say, most SRPG's and RPG's in the indie scene are better than this crap and the thing is, they don't even charge much either for their games.

I could make a better game than this honestly. I really don't know where to begin with this one, The opening made no sense, jumped right into a war going on with no explanation, tried to copy Fire Emblem's battle system and failed miserably, characters in the battle animation look like little bobble head toys attacking, character art is bad and the game is just so bland! I only pre-ordered this game because it said it was a decision based game and I love those but this one was not what I had expected. It also came with the bonus soundtrack and Artbook which were not worth it either. Only good thing I can say about this game is the music is decent.

Whatever you do, please do not buy this game! Not even for 5 bucks is this worth anything. I like Aksys because I have played some of their games on the PS Vita so I don't understand how this garbage was published by them. It's disappointing and I love Akysys but the developer of this game sucks. I am definitely refunding this game and can use that money for something better. Like I said, STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME!!

I want to give this a good review but...It's been forever since we have gotten a Langrisser game but this... this was horribly programed. Its as if this was programed by a team of novice who have had no experience using AI. You can literarily have units get stuck between you and a wall. To add to this the copy I got didn't even save. Seriously, it can't hold a save file. Like those Gameboy games who would erase themselves whenever the battery ran out... or if they bootleg. The only reason I'm not giving this a 1 star is because I want a second new Langrisser game. Come on, it has been ages since the last game and we still haven't gotten anything decent. You know what? I don't care, give me anything, the battle animation isn't even that important.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your traditional RPG
Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2016

Those who rate this game low apparently haven't played the series or just like graphic strong games. If you're looking for a good story and a good strategy game that doesn't unfairly throw anti RPG elements at you to give you a pleasant gaming experience, this is your game. One of the most well known artist in Japan does the art for this game and it has a very good sound track. Perhaps the only downfalls to this game are the lack of new-age graphics and the constant battle after battle element. Not having the option to travel where you want and investigate dungeons and towns can upset RPG fans whom are looking for that element in this game. As long as you go into this game expecting constant paper-rock-scissors like strategy battles with story between each battle, you will enjoy the game for what it is. It's good for those that just want to go strait to battle and take a break from your traditional RPG.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing new entry for an old, great classic series.
Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2016

I really wanted to like this game and give it a fair chance. I'm a huge fan of the Langrisser series and had played the Japanese versions long ago. I was shocked to hear of a new game being made after all these years, but when the Japan reviews were coming in negative I got worried. And unfortunately, it lived up to the negativity I was hearing. The music is very nostalgic, as it pretty much uses old Langrisser tracks. But the gameplay is clunky, the graphics not great even for a 3ds game, the battle animations were terrible, and it just wasn't fun. I really tried to give it a chance, I played it a few hours and did the first several scenarios but in the end I just wasn't enjoying it enough to continue and finish. Shame, sadly. If you're an old fan of the Langrisser series, you can give it a try if you like since it's only like $15 now. But you'll probably be disappointed.
