The LU-21P Pineapple Soprano Ukulele is a favorite offered by Lanikai. With the attention to detail and easy playability it is easy to see why. This handcrafted ukulele is made with Nato wood (otherwise known as Eastern Mahogany) on its top back and sides. When this wood choice is paired with the Rosewood fingerboard it brings out a mellow tone with an enhanced midrange that is often missing in instruments in this price point. With the easy playability, and included instruction booklet written by Mary Lou Dempler you will be playing in a matter of minutes. If you have never played ukulele before get ready for a world of fun. The ukulele is an addicting instrument that can and will be taken everywhere. The standard tuning on a Soprano, Concert, and Tenor ukulele is GBEA, and on a Baritone DGBE. If you can play one ukulele you can play them all! Pick up a Lanikai today and see why people are saying Lanikai Makes Me Happy! The pineapple shape gives the ukulele a bit of a louder sound for its size (compared to a normal soprano ukulele). The ukulele is strung with Nylgut strings, which on an inexpensive ukulele like this will give it a very decent sound. These strings are nylon and made to imitate natural gut strings and are highly recommended by players.
If you fear your ukulele is constructed poorly, or the strings buzz annoyingly, inspect it closely and consider sending it back, mine is perfect and beautiful workmanship.
I did a ton of research, read reviews, and watched review videos and I narrowed down the choices to this one. The price and the described quality definitely seemed like a good combo so I ordered this from here. After about a week of eager waiting it arrived, and much to my delight it was easy to tune. I have a chromatic tuner which I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who wants to pick up an uke or any other stringed instrument. So I got it tuned quickly and was already producing something that sounded like music- pretty good for a mostly non-musical person.
Now, one of the things I had read about this is that the strings fall out of tune right away. The first day, I did need to tune it a couple times, but after that it's kept it's tune really well. That was my biggest worry- something that falls out of tune right away might seem a little intimidating and very frustrating. (I used to have a terrible little guitar that couldn't stay in tune for any amount of time) But, I was very pleased and my worries were unfounded.
I am very happy that I chose this one, it looks and sounds lovely and I would recommend it to anyone.
I also ordered the beginner book and tuner that was suggested by amazon. The tuner is great - and yes, the instrument goes out of tune quickly. i am waiting for that settling in period to take place. I am not a fan of the book. I am having a lot of fun learning the notes and chords.
