Product Description

One of the premier manufacturers of ukuleles in the world, Lanikai offers a wide range of high-quality instruments, the most affordable of which is the LU series, namely the LU-11 and LU-21 ukuleles. The LU-11 is constructed with nato top, back, and sides, along with a nato fretboard and geared tuners. Reddish nato wood, also known as eastern mahogany, is often used in more affordable guitars and ukuleles and offers many of the same acoustic properties as mahogany. If you're looking for a quality uke at an affordable price, look no further. | Assembled exclusively by Austin Bazaar, this bundle includes everything you need to start playing right out of the box, including a clip-on tuner, instructional DVD, and polishing cloth. | Size: Soprano | Scale Length: 13.625" | Width at Nut: 35mm | Top: Nato | Back/Sides: Nato | Fretboard: Nato | Number of Frets: 12 | Tuners: Chrome/Ivoroid Geared

I'm a guitar player and I scoured the reviews looking for the best beginner ukulele for my daughter who never played one before. We weren't disappointed. The finish isn't perfect, but I did not expect that in this price range. I did expect the instrument to tune and sound good, and this model performs very nicely. The tuner is different from the one shown, but its actually more compact with big indicator lights on it. It works very well, so no complaint there. After a few days of having to tune it before she played, the strings settled in nicely and the instrument sounds great. The case is nice with a pocket for music and the tuner. She plays in a ukulele ensemble at school and the other players rave about how good it sounds. I highly recommend this package. A great deal for the price.

It was exactly as described, had no problem in using the tuner, the gig bag is well made. Was a gift for my husband and he has enjoyed it.

This is my first time purchasing (and playing) a ukulele. After doing much research, I decided to get this one; not only because of the brand, but also due to its bundle pack.

First off: I am very pleased with this ukulele. It looks just like it does in the picture. It is a lot more simple-looking than I though, but takes much effort to get those chords right!(: I did noticed that the strings got out of tune almost every time I played. My suggestion is to keep tuning them. Because the strings are new, they need some time to adjust to your playing. I've been playing and tuning since I got my uke and now only have to tune my C and E strings periodically. That brings me to the actual tuner itself...It is NOT what is advertised in the picture. I believe one the other reviewers said the one this company sends you is a guitar tuner. I'm not sure what kind it is. All I know is that it does not work with my uke (I had to look up an online tuner and play by ear.) The case is very cute and looks durable, although again, the tuner advertised isn't exactly what they send you. Mine has a grey patch on the front. This doesn't hinder the use of the case in any way...just a fyi kind of thing. And last the wipe. It's fairly big (bigger than my hand) and is nice and soft. Although I wonder why a uke player would really *need* a wipe. I used wipes while playing the cello and violin due to the rosin buildup. But I'm not complaining. I guess it'll be useful if/when my uke becomes dusty?

This is a great little uke! The finish is very nice and the uke comes stringed with high quality aquila strings. Despite others having troubles with receiving the correct brand, I received the lanikai brand which is exactly what I ordered.

Pros:
comes with aquila strings
nice finish
sounds good
tuner is adequate

Cons:
needs to be tuned before playing and tuned often during the first week or so, but this is the case with any uke

Overall a great product for the price

I bought this for my kids. They are taking lessons, and we needed an extra instrument. My kids are all beginners and my 7 year old loves this ukulele.

The case is a soft gig-bag.
The tuner works wonderfully.
The strings take FOREVER to quit stretching. We have to tune it every day.

A friend of mine bought this exact model and she said the store told her to swap out the strings because the ones that come with it are not very good quality. I haven't done that yet. I keep hoping they will stop stretching.

The reason for 4 stars is: I prefer the Makala brand. Our other ukulele is Makala and it has better sound than the lanikai.

I would definitely recommend this one if you can't find a Makala ukulele.

I absolutely love this! I've wanted to play the ukulele for a long time, and now regret not having picked it up sooner. I'm a small woman, barely 5' tall. Guitar has always felt too awkward in my hands. The uke, though? Perfect! And this is ideal for a beginner. Real wood (some lovely looking ones out there are plastic; maybe you don't have a preference, but I very much wanted real wood), great light weight, and decent sound. Convenient too, that it comes with the tuner, case, etc. I'm learning that it's typical for a uke to have to be frequently tuned in the first few weeks of ownership, and that is proving true with this uke, but it's apparently to be expected. Having the tuner makes tuning a breeze, though. Plus there's some great youtube videos out there which show you how to tune just the first string, and then tune the others against the first. Fun little exercise for a newbie like me :) Anyhow, I feel that as a beginner, you can't go wrong with this. I'm no expert, but it definitely suits my needs, and I'm very excited about this purchase.

I'm exceptionally glad I made this purchase.
As a music teacher, I am using ukulele now throughout most of my work day; especially in elementary general music.
After a presentation about ukulele at a local NAfME conference, I was motivated to purchase one myself and try it out, and I am glad I did.

Lanikai is the brand recommended to me, and the brand I have recommended to others. It's probably got the highest value over many other ukulele manufacturers. While it is not a top-notch, professional-quality instrument, you get well more than what you pay for.

Don't be fooled by other brands that may have a slightly lower price--they are bound to not hold a tune, fall apart, or have other defects.

For a ukulele hobbyist, the Lanikai LU-11 or LU-21 is the absolute best fit. Great quality for a very reasonable price!
