Almost perfect!

I am a graduate student with an on-campus job, which makes it hard to get a good lunch. On-campus choices are unhealthy (and limited) and costly. I have tried packing lunches before, but I found it time-consuming, overwhelming, and I have always struggled with creating a well-balanced meal. Today is my first day using the laptop lunch bento box and I love it.

Pros
- Everything fits neatly into a fairly small container
- The inner containers are the perfect sizes. Even the largest containers guarantee I can't overdo a creamy pasta dish.
- The dip container slides right into the largest lidded container.
- The utensils fit inside nicely and are good quality
- The box is easy to clean
- The system itself inspires me to create lunches with variety and health
- I love that the lidded boxes have pictures on them. Because the largest one has a picture of veggies on it, it reminds me to fill that box with a vegetable. The smaller lidded container has a picture of fruit

Cons
-The lunchbox is not that easy to open. It is fine for me, but I doubt a child younger than 7 could do it that easily
- It is pricey. I do wish that the system came with more inserts so I'd have more options. I will have to purchase those.
- It is hard to carry without a handle and I didn't want to pay $20 more for a carrying case. I'm sure I can find something cheaper here!

Overall, I love this product! I will be using it for a long time.

Not as great lunch box

This set almost makes it fun to make school lunch! The pieces are good quality, and my child (5) can open the lids on her own at school. I did buy extra inserts for variety and size, and since we use this almost every day, I will probably buy more. The flexibility of the kit is great. Love that it is dishwasher-safe. I am probably going to get more for the rest of my family.

As a side note, the "instruction" book is basically a manifesto on healthy and organic eating. You can pretty much figure out how to use this lunch box without it.

I am editing this and revising my review from 5 stars to 3 after using the product nearly the whole school year. It's NOT as easy as I thought for my daughter to open & close the interior pieces, and if they don't close, the whole thing doesn't close. Her teacher just told me to please get something new as the contents were spilling all the time.

Ah well, I have one for myself, which I still love.

This is an ok lunch box. I was disappointed that the hinge does not seem very sturdy and I expect it might break fairly quickly. Sometimes also, you have to have fiddle around with the inside containers to get the lid to close, so that is a little frustrating. I love that it has it's own silverware and the little dip container, as my daughter loves to dip her veggies in ranch dressing, and I had not been able to find a tiny reusable containter like that. I would like to have a handle on the box itself, so you don't have to buy the bag. I did not get the insulated carrying case, because right now my toddler goes to the sitter and there they put it in the fridge, so I did not think I needed the bag. I could see that it would come in handy for children when they go to school. Great concept! I do like the product, I just think it could be a little better.

I first saw these boxes last summer and decided to wait to buy them, to see if my desire passed after the initial "how awesome!" phase of finding something new and cool. Outfitting my oldest two would cost $50, for lunch boxes, after all! Six or seven months later I still wanted to buy them so I went ahead.

I am so glad I did! I love these boxes. With a quick lesson my six year old can easily open the outer case, and my two year old is going to have it figured out soon. (I homeschool my oldest but just love the idea of the bento style box for portioning and creating lunches.) The individual containers were a big hit, and very nice for my 2 year old who needs sides to push against when scooping up lunch on a spoon. The guide book that came wasn't anything special; it goes on a lot about the need for healthy food, which is good if you're just starting out getting away from junk or school lunches, but kind of pointless if you're already on the healthier path. It does have a few nice recipes and general ideas for food to pack, though.

I was most pleasantly surprised by the quality of the silverware. Heavy duty, but still small and lightweight enough for kids to use. I was expecting dollar-store quality silverware that might bend easily, but these are nice!

I ordered this for my 6 year old, newly diagnosed with Celiac. She loves it! She loves leftovers vs. traditional sandwich and snack lunch, so this is perfect. We have taken to the pool, park, etc. Sometimes she just wants to eat out of it at home. Totally what I was going for since when school starts back there is no more lunch buying. It was a bit hard for her to open at first, but now she has the hang of it. I gave it only 4 stars because it is hard to fit in a regular lunch box so you can include an ice pack and a drink. I didn't want to pay the extra $20 for the carrying case. I did find a bag for $6 that it fits in so we are happy.

I'm pretty disappointed with this product. I have found no use for the two interior containers without lids; crackers have crumbs, a sandwich generally has some kind of sauce, even grapes have condensation that I don't want to get in the main container. But my biggest complaint is that the main container doesn't seal -- it's more or less guaranteed that something will leak out of the box and into your bag. As others have mentioned, the hinge isn't good. I've used this box occasionally (maybe 20-30 times) since I bought it and the hinge is starting to crack. That the silverware it comes with is nice is pretty much my only unreserved compliment.

I bought a Lock & Lock bento lunch set that was slightly less expensive and better quality (I don't see the exact one on Amazon but similar ones are available).
