Born in Simcoe, Ontario, in 1965, I was raised and still reside in Cambridge, Ontario. I began writing circa 1974, a bored child looking for something to while away the long, summertime days. My penchant for reading, 'The Hardy Boys,' led to an inspiration one sweltering summer afternoon, when my best friend and I thought, ‘We could write one of those.’ And so, I did.

As my reading horizons broadened, so did my writing. 'Star Wars' inspired me to write a 600-page novel about outer space that caught the attention of a special teacher, Mr. Woodley, who encouraged me to keep on writing.

A trip to a local book store saw the proprietor introduce me to Stephen R. Donaldson and Terry Brooks. My writing life was forever changed.

At 17, I left high school to join the working world to support my first son. For the next twenty-two years I worked as a shipper at a local bakery. At the age of 36, I went back to high school to complete my education. After graduating with honors at the age of thirty-nine, I became a member of our local Police Service, and worked for 12 years in the provincial court system.

In early 2017, I resigned from the Police Service to pursue my love of writing full-time. With the help and support of my lovely wife Caroline and our 5 children, I have now realized my boyhood dream.

Mysterious Stranger

A wonderful adventure

A fantastic adventure with a strong female main character to cheer for. I enjoyed this story and the author is very talented at weaving an exciting world with characters that are endearing. I'm excited to read the next book in the series! Stephens is an author to watch!

Loved this little gem. This is the backstory from one of the characters in Soul Forge series. I haven’t read the Soul Forge Series yet but this book whet my whistle to read the series. This story really pulled me in from the start and I enjoyed learning about Latina.
Quick read and very enjoyable. Great for fantasy lovers.

Knuckle down principled

Larina is called the Storms End Lightning bolt for some good reasons. You do not see her until she strikes... lethally.
And she is a top cat burglar.
Yet she has friends and is highly regarded amongst the poorest of the poor in the city.
Until somebody tries to hire her skills as a cat burglar.
Larina is just the kind of woman I would want on my side in any skirmish. Fortunately Pollard is about to discover that too.
As the first in a new side Bane Bridge series Larina is exactly the epic fantasy I love, i. e. the knuckle down stand for your principles action kind.
Not knowing exactly where the quest is going to lead her (though some clues are already in the offing), this is one series I would hate losing out on. And author Richard H. Stephen's gained a new avid fan.
Enjoy.

Don't let the title lull you into a false sense of security !

I knew before I finished the first page that I was in for another grand adventure ~ and it was. I'm shocked at how quickly the book came to an end.
Besides the cutthroat Larina, you will meet various other characters, both bad and good, along the journey. I grew fond of 'Bear' and Sir Allard the most, but as I was introduced to new characters, I enjoyed them, too.
I assure you, if you choose to read this book, and you should, you will not be disappointed. I give this remarkable offering a full 5 stars!
