Blurb: Larry lives on the beautiful island of Mauritius, but he is not happy. He’s never met another dodo bird—not in his entire life—and feels very lonely. One day, he decides to stop moping around and embark on a journey across the island to find a friend like himself. Along the way, he meets several other animals who take an interest in his mission and offer to help. Is Larry the very last dodo bird, or might he finally find a friend? There’s only one way to find out.
A cute and charming story with quirky, funny characters, Larry the Lonely is a fun read. This book has wonderful graphics and a message of acceptance that will benefit all children, though I do wonder how Larry was able to sleep in the trees if he can’t fly. I give Larry a 3 star rating.
Larry the Lonely led to a great discussion with an eight year old about how we all have something that makes us unique and different and that that isn't a bad thing. We need to spend time getting to know people different than us too. Different people with different abilities have a lot to offer us!
Overall, we really enjoyed this sweet little story and thought the illustrations were straightforward and well done. We would read another from this series!
*I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I have two kids of my own, a 9 year old and a 3 month old, and this is something I would definitely read to my 3 month old. My nine year old is more into things like I Survived and Goosebumps. But it's definitely a book someone of that age could easily read and understand. Plus, letting kids know it's ok to be friends with different people is a great message to send at that age.
Finally, Larry realizes that even though he is the last Dodo, he can still have friends! "What makes each of us different is also what makes us special."
Another great book with wonderful illustrations and a great life lesson.
Cute story! My copy came from the author. I am leaving a review of my own free volition. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
