A wildly confusing and actually amusing section is the chapter describing Billy Wilkerson's building the Flamingo. I finally gave up trying to understand that author's math as he described how that Wilkerson had sunk $300,000 into the project but the cost of the construction had "... ballooned to just under $1.2 million.. a $400,000 shortfall" ..huh? Also...chapter heading page 8 "Inspiration to Build the Flaming"...(flamingo?)...
In the chapter on Bugsy Siegal "...A year later, Seigel and Lansky began building ties to Charles Luciano and Frank Costello, future bosses of the Genovese crime family. Seigal and Lansky also became aligned with Frank Costello, future boss of the Genovese crime family,.." (this kind of duplication is all throughout the book, very frustrating.
on page 64: "... the character Moe Greene--based on Siegel--who was killed in this manner in [the movie] The Godfather.
then on page 68 (about Gus Greenbaum and Moe Sedway): "In the film The Godfather, Greenbaum's name is blended with Moe Sedway's for the fictional character "Moe Greene".
As I said.. maybe this is just the Kindle.. but it's like an early draft of the manuscript got out by accident...
Problem is the author gets caught up on in some minutiae that the reader(this reader)doesn't really care about. In all I guess the book is informative and has some merit to it.
