The EL-USB-1 is a USB temperature data logger with a measurement range of -35 to +80°C (-31 to +176°F). The data logger can store up to 16, 382 readings and is supplied with a long-life replaceable lithium battery, allowing the unit to log data continually for at least one year (depending on logging rate and temperature). The status of EL-USB-1 is indicated by flashing red, green and orange LEDs. The data logger is protected against moisture to IP67 standard when the protective cap is fitted.

Getting the text files into graph form within the EasyLog Software is easy, but getting those files into a usable Excel or (in my case) Open Office Calc graph is quite difficult and is not for the novice, I gave up after several failed attempts as there is just an overwhelming amount of data points. However the EasyLog graph actually works quite well in displaying the data for most people, but I found the program slow and hung in "Not Responding" mode quite often in switching between Graph View and Data View. You just need to wait for the program to load the data to the different format. The program also seemed to slow my computer down until I closed it out.
You can also zoom in to specific data points for more retailed information. I don't see why I would need Excel or Open Office Calc for the information I need to display.
I got some useful information on the operation of my heat pump and will continue to use the logger to generate more data sets. You can save as many logs as you wish then compare the logs.
Finally the battery is a special half AA size which might only be available from Lascar - haven't tried yet.
The good news is that my insulin is just fine. For me, the even better news is that I now KNOW that my insulin is OK and can trust it. Among other things, that means that if my insulin isn't controlling my blood-sugar readings the way I think it should, then I know that I need to be more careful about calculating how many grams of carbs I'm eating.
I can't comment on the calibration/sensitivity of this device, but I was using it because my young child's bedroom seemed to be getting uncomfortably hot at night, and I wanted to get a sense of just how bad it was: this worked like a charm. I set the measurements so that it took a reading every 5 minutes throughout the night, and then was able to quickly download the data to the laptop and see the graphical representation (with pinpoint times and temperatures) throughout the night. It told us that despite the thermostat being at 68, my one child's room was going up to 74-75 degrees at night! I think this is accurate, because I also used it in my other child's roo, and it was alas, 1-2 degrees *lower* than the thermostat in the hallway throughout the night! (and we always knew it felt a little chilly) Suffice to say we have some heating/cooling issues to work out!! But this device helped give us a better idea of what we were dealing with!
The only thing that confused me was getting the battery inside. Had a bit of a problem figuring how to remove the two pieces. After it clicked, no problems. Software is easy to install and use.
I needed such a device. I bought this one. So far, it is working EXACTLY as described and expected. Will follow up over time as needed...
