on the job (view larger).
This laser line tool measures 2 x 2-7/8 x 3-3/8 inches and weights just 1.7 pounds, so it practically fits in the palm of your hand. It includes both a pouch and a hard-shell carrying case to help protect it from the rough realities of construction work, and it's also available in a system package that includes the SLD laser detector for expanded utility in exterior applications. The PLS180 is powered by three standard AA-sized batteries (included), and it can run over 30 hours between battery changes. All PLS tools are designed and manufactured to meet strict quality control guidelines, and the PLS180 is backed by a three-year limited warranty.
Simplify Layout Tasks and Increase Productivity
Whether you're a carpenter, plumber, HVAC specialist, or general contractor, you know that layout tasks and quality-control are essential and time-consuming components of every construction project. The PLS180 lets you accomplish these jobs quickly, accurately, and without relying on complicated, time-consuming setup.
The PLS180 generates two crisp, visible laser lines for plumb and level applications, with an indoor visible working range of 100 feet. The PLS180 has the longest laser lines in the industry. The lines project at over 180 degrees. This means that the level line projects wall to wall wrapping a room, and the plumb line projects behind the tool allowing the laser line to wrap a plumb line completely around a room or door opening makes the PLS180 a truly versatile tool capable of helping with everything from acoustic ceiling or door and window installations to wallpaper, drywall, and tile jobs. And industry-leading brightness makes sure that these lines are easy to see. For interior work to 10 feet high, consider pairing this tool with the PLS-20513 telescoping tripod (not included).
For effective outdoor use to 200 feet, the PLS180 offers a pulse setting that works with a PLS-SLD detector to deliver reliable readings over longer distances and in bright light conditions (detector not included). The PLS180 is accurate within 1/8-inch over 30 feet.
PLS Benchmark Dampening Ensures Consistent, Reliable Layout Results
Like all PLS point and line laser alignment tools, the PLS180 is fully self-leveling, and it takes full advantage of the patented PLS pendulum design and magnetic dampening to deliver real, usable results. Dampening is the settling down effect on the laser beam, and thanks to this advanced technology, all PLS point and line lasers settle down instantly when moved to a new layout point.
Additionally, this system compensates for job site vibrations caused by compressors, generators, and other heavy equipment, preventing the laser point from "jumping" around and ensuring that your laser delivers accurate, usable information. This helps your team get jobs done right the first time to save you time and money.
Three-Year Limited Warranty
PLS has upgraded its warranty from a single year to a three-year limited warranty. During this warranty period, your PLS product will be repaired or replaced (with the same or similar model at our option), without charge for either parts or labor, through PLS.
If your laser tool ever does need to be serviced, PLS offers fast, 48-hour factory turnaround on repairs or replacements to help ensure that your PLS laser line tool continues to provide accurate performance and improved productivity for the full duration of your career.

Top customer reviews
Because I love the PLS180 I didn't give it 2 star, although I think that's what is deserved. Background, I used these pls180s in commercial carpentry and they were indispensable. Hands down, best line level. Projects a CRISP line far and wide. Never once had any problems. Now I CAN'T GET ONE THAT WORKS. The seller was prompt, absolutely no issues with that. I first ordered a new pls180 on ebay a few weeks ago. Taking it out of the box I heard a loose screw inside the level. It worked for all of 5 minutes before the beam wouldn't turn on. (the LED light worked) I returned that one with no issues, although I was a bit annoyed in the $280 level I had received. As I'm in the middle of a remodel, I need this asap. I tried Amazon, hoping it was a fault of the seller. Received this one free of visible defects, but I had the same problem of it quitting! Keep in mind, $280... Quitting after 2 minutes this time. Absurd. Called PLS Support and they recommended sending it back for a replacement. Maybe their quality control is slipping?
ARRRRRGH. I'm torn between settling for an inferior dewalt or gambling on another PLS.(Which I love, when they work)
I'm sending this one back as well for a replacement, I will update my review with the status of the new one.
I have received another new pls 180 in the same timely fashion as the other one from Amazon. Pleased to say that this one works perfectly as it's supposed to. Hopefully the bad ones I got weren't the tip of the iceberg of faulty units. Improved my rating to 4 stars.
The green is noticeably easier to see in the bright environments - note that I have not used it outside in the sun, but its brighter than the red.
Only downside... The cost is excessive for this green version, so unless you really need the brightness I would stay with the red version.
I am so glad i went with the PLS180 over the PLS3!!!!
If you do foundation work, a laser tool is unquestionably one of the most valuable tools in your kit - It's hard for me to imagine how people did form-work without lasers. But lasers are infinitely handy with all sorts of other framing and finish carpentry tasks. With the PLS180, you will find yourself using it for ALL KINDS OF THINGS. In fact a lot of labor tasks typically involving a chalk-line, measuring tape, and or level, you will find yourself reaching for the laser and saving lots of time. Setting wainscotting or picture-crowning or any sort of trim level across an entire room is a good example. BUT... also why not reach for the laser and shoot a vertical line on your plywood when you're nailing in the field on a shear-wall? I even use it to plumb up door jams. Any task you would ordinarily do by holding a level in one hand while you try to screw or nail in the piece of whatever it is in the other hand, can now be accomplished by setting the laser in the right place and work with both hands free!!!
Next on my list is to get a tripod for it so i don't spend as much time setting it in the right spot with blocks and shims on a ladder or whatever.
Slightly bumbed i didn't drop the extra $70 for the PLS4, but i'm ok with that. If what you do is exclusively foundations and structural framing, you might want to go for the PLS4, since getting a plumb dot up to align existing framing with a footing, and stuff like that can be pretty useful.
