The designed of this fan is like the air handler associated with your home furnace, some may call it an air handler. If you are familiar with the the noise the fan makes inside an air handler/furnace located inside a closet in an older ranch style home as the main and perhaps only air return would normally be directly beneath the closet door you can imagine this fan's noise level on high. In fact I would say this fan is actually quieter than that. The sound is more of a benign sound of air moving like that of a furnace fan rather than the choppy more high pitched whine of a box fan.Read more ›
What I was pleasantly surprised by was the 1.1 amperage rating of the U15701, which is 20% lower than the 1.4 amp rating of the smaller 4900. I don't know the exact CFM as Lasko doesn't post them, but I would say the U15701 blows at least 50% more than the 4900. I plan on using the U15701 12 hours or so every day, so that extra 20% savings in electrical costs is very much appreciated. Usually lower amperage motors within the same class run cooler and last longer because they are more efficient.
I also have a Lasko 4930 tower fan and the U15701 clearly blows more than it. At least 50% more like the 4900. And what is amazing, the U15701 is quieter than both the 4900 and 4930 while putting out at least 50% more air.
While the fan is sturdy enough for home/garage use I wouldn't throw it in the back of a truck to get knocked around too much.
For the $64.88 I paid at Sams Club I don't think there is a fan that throws more air for the money.
You really have to use the fan to appreciate the volume of air it produces. So go buy one!!!
1. Obviously moves more air than the 4900. Very powerful.
2. Quiet for a large blower. It is more silent than the 4900.
3. It looks very nice.
4. Comes with a fuse for plugged appliances or tools.
5. Easy to move around because of the handle.
1. Price. But you get what you pay for.
If you are looking to buy a high velocity fan, get the top of the line, the Max Performance U15701.
