It is large enough to fit on my desk as well as sit on the floor and produce the same outcome. The swivel feature is great for air circulation. The High and low settings are also great. After some time, I become cold (With a blazer on and the warm air still blowing in my office and all), so I turn it on low and let it still circulate air. The machine is very quiet to me, but then agian, I also have the central air blowing overhead so I cannot tell and cannot review the sound part. The design is very sleek and looks great in a professional setting.
Attached are photos of the machine and it's size next to a regular water bottle. Also is a sticky note being blown on LOW setting so you can till see the power it has. I reccomend purchasing this product. Let's see how it holds up when NYC hits the high 90's this summer! Wish me luck!
My only small complaint is that the both switches are stiff and the fan is not heavy enough to stay in place when pushing the buttons.
I would buy this same fan again and recommend it to friends.
Now that spring is here, the war is back on this soldier is sick of fighting. I decided to buy a fan, but (darn) which one? It seems there are millions out there. After reading reviews, I decided to purchase this fan.
It arrived and I was initially put-off by its small size. Don't let the small size fool you. This fan, on the slow speed, moves ample air and is whisper quiet. It does the job and does it well. Now I am not as warm and am uber content not being caught up in the temperature battles.
I do not recommend this Lasko if you sleep with a fan at night. It has 2 speeds and is too quiet at the lowest speed to provide the "white noise" that us urban dwellers around the world have come to rely on.
Overall, 2 thumbs up, way up, on this fan as an office companion
2) Moves ample air
3) Small and takes up little desk-top real estate
1) Not loud enough to sleep with (only a con if you want night noise)
Pros: Cool design, great breeze, price
Cons: Buttons are kind of hard to push, I have to grab the top with one hand and push the buttons with the other OR make the back of the fan touch the wall then push the buttons. Not as quiet as I would like. I don't think i can clean the dust screens or rear intake easy.
I'll run it until it dies and then buy another (the Vornado desk-size fan was even worse in appliance life, btw). Will update exact DOD later.
(original review, below)
I find the Lasko fans are almost as quiet as the Vornado fans, although they don't move the same amount of air. But when you have multiple fans, one at five windows, quiet is just as important as cfm's. Oddly, Amazon offers very few small size fans. This one is perfect for a desk area. The low speed is extremely quiet, just a whisper of air. The higher speed moves a lot more air but is correspondingly much noisier: equivalent to the Holmes small 10" window box fan in decibels, although slightly lower cfms (a subjective judgment, not by measurement).
My one real criticism of the Lasko 4000: it's lightweight being small, and therefore you need TWO HANDS to push the control buttons. One to push the button, the other to hold the back of the fan because it will otherwise fall over. A turn dial would have raised the cost slightly but made this a correct one-handed, turn on/turn off design.
Lasko fans in general don't move a lot of air. I have a larger Lasko tower fan and it's wimpy compared to the Holmes, Honeywell, and Vornado fans.
