At low volume it doesn't have as much bass as I had expected. The loudness setting does help with that though.

From what I have read on the Boomboxery site, the case's internal design seems like an acoustic suspension type, which is supposed to give tight bass at high volume, but somewhat at the expense of low volume.

No distortion problem from the 5 band equalizer, which is a relief. I bought this because it has a real equalizer, and not just presets.

I tried a 4GB flash drive (pre-formatted to FAT32) on the USB port and played an mp3 album easily enough. All the songs were displayed, but with odd track numbers for some reason, (1, 3, 5, etc). It didn't affect playback.

I also tried playing iTunes store music (the DRM-free type) from the flash drive, but that didn't work. It was worth a try.
Edit: Bluetooth works for playing iTunes store music. The Lasonic showed as "headphones" on a Mac Mini (set the Lasonic to "BT", and the Mac's Bluetooth prefpane to "on" and "discoverable").
The sound quality was OK, but the signal level was low (much lower on the same volume setting with Bluetooth than with local radio stations). Also there was a slight whistling noise during the quietest parts (TheLasonic was 7 feet away from the Mac and in direct line of sight). Raising the "preamp" setting in iTunes' equalizer window (with iTunes' equalizer set to "flat" first) helped somewhat with the signal level and made the sound much "fuller" than before.

In addition to 120V AC, the 931BTQ can be powered with 10 D batteries, or 15V DC via an input jack on the back of the unit. The LCD display glows orange whenever the unit is powered on, even on battery power. Not sure how, or if, that affects battery life.

I read several negative reviews on here and I just wanted to share my opinion because I disagree with a lot of what was said. I just bought this about a week and a half ago for an 80s party. I had about 30 people listening to it and they all loved it. I got a lot of questions like "where did you get that?" "How much did it cost"? I love this boombox. The Bluetooth works well and the sound quality is really good. Some people didn't like the sound quality but remember - this is a boombox, not a high end stereo system. If you were around during the 80s and you remember the old school boomboxes they sounded good but not great. I think this one sounds VERY good compared to the old ones. Also, some people mentioned that the device is flimsy and feels like a plastic piece of crap. I disagree with this as well. Try hanging it on your shoulder for a half hour and let me know how you feel!! I think this product was well made. One piece of advice -if you are going to listen to something with a lot of base in it (i.e. Run DMC, Doug E Fresh, etc) you are going to want to turn up the base on the device. To do this click the menu button several times until you get to the bass function. it starts at level 5 which isn't enough so kick it up to level 7 which is the highest. That's probably my only complaint about the device - the base (even at the highest level) could be a little bit more pronounced. But that's it. This thing rocks.

This is the worst sounding, biggest piece of crap I have ever seen and heard in my life. This sounds NOTHING like the original Lasonic from years ago. The craftsmanship is cheap and flimsy, the volume knob was bent and scraped as it turned. Practically no bass at all, even when the EQ and separate bass control settings are maxed out. The loudness button boosted the power but that just made it a louder version of the muddy, shrilly mid-ranged pile of steamy, fly covered dog feces. The sound resembled the scene in the movie Deliverance when Ned Beatty was squealing like a pig. Ned Beatty probably got more pleasure out of that scene than I did when I listened to this radio. I have clock radios that sound better. I took it out of the box and had it repacked within 10-15 minutes. I almost threw it straight in the garbage. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy this embarrassment of a boombox unless they were looking for a gag gift or if they wanted to buy someone the worst gift ever. I will never purchase another Lasonic product again. I hate this piece of crap and I hate Lasonic, a little disappointed that Amazon would advertise such a product. I guess I'll just deal with Ebay and Parts Express from here on out.

I was trying to decide between this and the iHome boom box for my boyfriend. So glad I chose this. The sound is great and the kitschy retro design is a huge hit. The remote comes in handy and the Bluetooth means you can change the tunes from your phone while in the other room. Just keep in mind this device is pretty big.

Best thing to say about it is that the sound does sound good. When controling the volume with that good sound, just not even close to par.
