Last Glimpse

Last Glimpse explores "Modern Atlantis" - the island paradise of the Maldives. It's the lowest lying nation in the world, and due to rising sea levels, this community and its culture is on the brink. In this travel show with purpose, we meet young people taking action on the frontlines of change.

Well worth your time

An exceptionally relatable and enjoyable documentary that conveys a sense of the beauty of the Maldives, its culture, its people and their challenges.
Most importantly, it helps us understand what would be lost if such a unique locale were to be submerged due to global warming. Through his encounters with a variety of memorable natives, Burstein effectively humanizes the faceless threat of climate change.
It’s a very fresh and entertaining way to promote an urgent cause, and it’s tempting to think that Burstein could use this creative approach to raise awareness of other important issues.

Important and captivating

This has the feel of a travel show. The host takes us around the Maldives, introducing the people, the food, the culture, but with the underlying theme that all of this could disappear because of rising sea levels. Last Glimpse does a good job of showing what's at stake because of climate change. I hope this is part of a larger series that explores more places that are at risk! It's an important message that needs to be shared.

Climate Change is real!

This was very, very well done, and the message is clear: If we don't change our ways soon, it'll be too late.
This has given me the motivation to get more active in Reuse, Recycle, etc.
We need more people like Josh!
Thank you Josh for doing what you do!

Impactful up close and personal view of climate change.

I liked most of all the personal and very human view and involvement illustrated in such a seemingly effortless manner by the filming, narration and editing processes. Beautiful!

Important look at an impacted place

This video digs into the sad reality that important human cultures in places like the Maldives are facing the devastation of climate change first and right now. We are all impacted but some cultures and communities will feel it first and worst. Make sure to watch this video.

Eyeopening Perspective
Aptly titled, the film provides viewers essentially a "last glimpse" into the ecosystem of the Maldives as it presently exists. With a Bourdianian style, Burstein highlights the rich history and artist culture the atolls, which is too often overlooked as merely a tourist destination. Burstein features the Maldives as among world's lowest-lying nation to sea-level and demonstrates the devastating potential impact that climate change will have on both the nation's community and biology. Last Glimpse is a call to action for the global community to preserve vulnerable lands, waters, habitats, species, and communities and provides insight into the sustainable living methods and business practices already exampled in the Maldives.

If the late Anthony Bourdain was alive and a Millennial, this is what he'd be doing now
LAST GLIMPSE may be, at its core, an urgent documentary promoting climate change awareness, but this 45 minute project is a rich human drama: the characters––native Maldivians––are memorable, delightful people, who open up through music, dance, and conversation. Josh Burstein is a gifted filmmaker, and the story he tells is visually beautiful, highly creative, and thoroughly engaging. Do watch.
