Editorial Reviews

Review

Publishers WeeklyPraises "The Last Homecoming"

"A generation-spanning homecoming is at the heart of thiscaptivating novel from Chabot (Godspeed: A Love Story). More than justa venerable landmark in Haviland, Mich., the grand old house at 401 BarnhillRoad has been the cherished home of four families over the course of the last90 years. With the house set to be demolished soon to make way for a newhighway and bridge, the home's current owner, Nettie Tannehill, sends outinvitations to the surviving members of the other three families for a finalChristmas Eve homecoming. On Christmas Eve, newspaper owner Willow Summerhaven, former baseball player Nick MacAlinden, and 90-year-old Sister TheresaRenwick--all troubled by pressing financial woes--reunite one last time in thehouse that had once provided them with shelter and security, little realizingthat the answer to their problems lies within the house's walls and under itsfloorboards. Although Chabot lovingly depicts a Rockwell-esque image of smalltown Americana, his memorable characters are shaped by less rosy issues likealcoholism and suicide. Though the pacing is a little slow, the detailed proseand dynamics between the characters makes this a worthy, inspiring novel." (BookLife)
--PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

"The Last Homecoming is an inherently fascinating and deftly crafted read that showcases author Dan Chabot's genuine flair for originality and narrative driven storytelling. A fully engaging and unfailingly entertaining saga of a novel, The Last Homecoming is unreservedly recommended, especially for community library Contemporary General Fiction collections."
