This show has had such great writing and acting consistently all the way through that even though this was the final season, which makes me sad, it was done so very well. Some have complained that they didn’t age the actors or it didn’t follow the books closely enough, to this I say get over it. There’s always going to be differences between book version and tv/movie versions, it’s like comparing apples to oranges. As for not aging the characters, well I just didn’t let it bother me, the actors did a superb job with their characters and the storyline was so good, that I didn’t have the need to see them as “old”. Given how some gripe about every little thing, if they had aged them, then some of these same people would have complained that they couldn’t have done this or that because they were old…..just watch it and enjoy and rewatch the entire series and again Enjoy!!

I've been a fan of Cornwell's Saxon Chronicles since the first book came out. The producers of the DVD series have done a superb job of bringing those stories to life with superb casting and attention to detail. You feel like you know the characters, and that you have a view of one of the most important periods in human history, that origins of England. Season 5 is an excellent entry in the series, but I highly recommend the entire set from the beginning, and for an even more immersive experience, read the original Saxon Chronicles in book form.

I felt like the fifth season lost a little of the edge the earlier seasons had but the first 4 seasons are a lot to live up to. I'm looking forward to see what they do with the movie that is supposed to cap off the story.

Loved the series and wish it was on 4K. Also wish it would continue and follow the family like the novels. Actors did a great job, and found it be than the dragon series on HBO. Although it wasn't bad and maybe because i read the books a few years before they were piched for tv series. Bernard Cornwell is a good writer and has several other novels worth a look if you havn't heard of his work.

This a wonderful conclusion to the whole Utred saga. I would not reccommend for pre-teens because of the violence. There are many deaths in this season of main characters both good and bad. It is sad to see even some of the killers die. The acting is top-notch and the plot holds together very well. Note the plotting departs from the books in many ways (if my memory serves me). At this point many of the actors are too young for the timeline but that can easily be overlooked. A small but annoying point in the series for me is that Utred carries his long-sword on his back. This may look 'cool' but is really stupid -- even common sense tells you that you cannot pull out a sword quickly or put it back into a scabbard if it is hanging from your back. Whatever, a very satisfying but ultimately 'sad' conclusion to the series.
