Thus begins this new, young adult series building on the Arthurian mythos by Nicola S. Dorrington. The present day setting, the youth of the characters that we normally envision as grown adults, the suspense, and the romance all blend together for an immensely enjoyable reading experience. The resolution to the story also leaves the reader ready for the next installment in the series. I really enjoyed this book and I think others that have a penchant for tales of Camelot and young adult paranormal fiction will, too.
I bought this book because I love anything Arthurian and Knight related. It was a great twist on an old tale. It reminded me a lot of what Disney had tried to do with Avalon High only better. I don't know that it really is Five stars, but needed more than four stars, so I'm okay with five. I loved the story. I loved the way that the author incorporated the Legend but in a whole new twist. I love the way this author describes the scenery. I felt like I was riding with Cara and the knights trying to defeat evil. The only thing that I wished could have been clearer would be the description of Cara because I felt that the picture on the cover and the description in the book contradicted each other. The booked moved at a good pace, not too slow, not too fast. The characters were fairly well developed and not confusing at all. I just wanted more. Which is where my first negative comment comes in and its not even that big of a complaint. I wanted more, especially in the final battle. There was this build up to this fight with Morgana and then it was just over. I also wanted more in the time travel. I wanted to see the training with Lancelot. I wanted to see the romance blossom between Lancelot and Cara. He waited over a thousand years for her. I wanted to see the build up as to why. My only other complaint was the grammar in the novel. I understand that the author is originally from London, so I chalk it up to American grammar vs European grammar. This is not a bad thing, it is just something that takes a little getting use to. It took me about 50 pages to start just reading over some of the odder sentence structures. There were a few typos, though I'not completely sure all of them were typos (again American Vs European Grammar). Also, there were a few places that need some comma breakage. However, none of this really took away too much from the story. I have just started the second book, so I will leave a review with that book once I am finished. Overall, one of the better YA books I have read. I could see this making a good movie series if done right.
Despite the errors, it's quite the page turner!
