Reed Lawson is a successful night club owner but his life hasn’t always been about success. His life used to center around partying and looking for his next fix. Until one tragic night.
Fast Forward a couple of years.
Bailey Jameson moved to the city to get away from her party friends. She’s been living sober for two years. About to become evicted her sister Leah uses her connections and gets Bailey a job working at L.E.X. (the nightclub Reed owns.) She is soon to find out that being a recovering addict and working at a nightclub may not be the brightest idea…especially when you throw Mr. Reed Lawson in the mix.
Last Line is told from two point of views.
We have Bailey’s POV and witnessing her struggle with sobriety. We see the struggle of her trying to keep her drug addiction a secret from her sister and family only hurting herself in the end. You need the support of friends and family to help you through something that consuming. You need to see that there is something on the other side of the haze that there is something worth living for and getting clean for. Family is everything.
We also have Reed’s POV and witnessing his notorious playboy ways and the guilt that he lives with due to the tragic night. Reed has given up using in favor for a large amount of one night stands giving him a love em’ and leave em’ playboy reputation. That is until he locks eyes with Bailey. The attraction between the two is instant and undeniable.
I really enjoyed Reed in Last Line. He came off as the Playboy of the novel but on the surface you could see the troubles he lives with everyday. the guilt of the tragic event that happens controls him.
Let’s not forget the sexy time scenes….Holy inferno. They were crazy hot.
I enjoyed Last Line the only issue i had was that the story line felt rushed during a few scenes. Other than that i thought it was pretty good!
By: Heather Stone
3.5 star review by Kristie K.
Our favorite author of the insta-love novella, Heather Stone, has finally blessed us with her first full length, standalone novel. As with many readers, I was anxious for this development in Ms. Stone’s career. The question now is, was it everything we hoped it would be?
Reed Lawson is a billionaire playboy that enjoys uncomplicated relationships that only amount to dirty sex and no expectations for more. With a past as dark as his hand made suits, Reed has tried to keep his club and himself on the straight and narrow, determined for history to never repeat itself. As owner of the hottest club in New York, Reed easily has his pick of women…so why does he find himself drawn to the new cocktail waitress at his club? With his past, he learned the hard way not to screw the help…but he may have to break his own rules. Bailey Jameson is the most beautifully broken woman Reed has ever laid eyes on. Though his usual M.O. is to stay far away from such temptation, there is just something about Bailey that has him crossing every line and breaking every self-made rule. What Reed doesn’t know yet is that Bailey has her own skeletons, and they are every bit as dark and frightening as his own. Working at a club like this is the last place Bailey should be, but her sister stuck her neck out for her, and she can’t let her down again…plus she needs the money. Determined to keep her gorgeous boss at arms length, Bailey isn’t prepared for the onslaught of sexual tension that ripples the air between them. Soon the attraction can’t be denied, and both Reed and Bailey are breaking all the rules…but will they break each other in the process?
Last Line is a story of unexpected love, a broken heroine, and the darker side of temptation. I have said in previous reviews of Ms. Stones stories that I wanted her to do a full length novel. I wanted so much MORE of her characters and more from the story. I was ecstatic when I heard that she had finally done it! As I read Last Line, I treated it as if it was a debut novel…because, essentially that is what it is. From that point of view, Last line is a great start. I was drawn to the story, and ached for the characters as they struggled with temptation. I believe I felt everything that Ms. Stone wanted me to feel, but I still closed the book wanting MORE. The story flowed well, but could have been smoother in places, and more raw in others. So many details came out about each character, but it never seemed to be enough, and I was left with so many questions. Now, don’t get me wrong…I enjoyed the book a great deal, but I hope that Ms. Stone will continue to push herself and stretch her abilities. She is a wonderful author, with so many stories yet to tell, and I plan to be there for every one of them. I look forward to watching her grow and gain the much deserved acclaim that I believe she can reach. Last Line is an emotional, dark, and eye opening story that is a great start to a new chapter in the career of Ms. Heather Stone.
