I love intense romances! The Last Shot, by Sara Hubbard, is a sexy, can' t put down romance novel of second chance!

It tells the touching story of broken souls in search of love. Her characters Annie and Ethan, have flaws, which makes this story more realistic! Annie, a nurse, always loved Ethan, since they were teenagers, but their relationship became too intense for her, so she decided to let him live his own dream of becoming a famous hockey player. They both came from broken families and had suffered so much. But destiny, will bring them together, when Ethan's brother, Manny, is injured and brought to the hospital where Annie is working. When they meet again, old feelings come back, which becomes a love/hate relationship. Ethan, loves her so much, that he will do anything to win her heart and get her back, but he is an impulsive emotional guy. After a three years separation, lots of emotions overwhelm them! Also, their family relationship is very complicated. Do they still share the same feeling for each others? Will she give him a second chance? Will his brother Manny, intervene to get those two stubborn lovers, back together? Just, go and grab this one when it comes out, you won't be disappointed!

Ms. Hubbard wrote a well written, fast-paced, sexy and romantic story of second chance. You don’t need to be hockey fan, to love “The Last Shot”, just a romantic soul!

What a great read! I was so pleasantly surprised with this book. I only gave it four stars because I think it had a lot more potential to be better. For example, the ending. Even though it was fine, I expected more. I felt somewhat jipped. It didn't feel finalized to me. I was invested in Annie and Ethan's relationship. The ending seemed rushed. I wanted a better ending. And the letter Annie's grandmother wrote to Ethan. I would've like to have read about him actually reading it himself and read his thoughts on it. And last, there wasn't enough said about Charlie and his final outcome. Too much left unsaid.
I know many readers get upset with books that are a series. But, this book should've been a series. I would've loved to have read about when they first met and how their relationship transitioned from a friendship to love. Or Annie struggling to let Ethan go. And Ethan struggling to accept it.
In closing, I must mention Manny. Manny has to have a book written about him. I really loved his character. Please read. Great read.

Annie and Ethan were high school sweethearts. Annie was raised by her Nana while Ethan and his brother Manny were raised by an alcoholic father. Neither have had an easy life while growing up. Annie has commitment issues, Ethan has anger issues. Ethan’s dreams come true when he has the chance to play hockey for the NHL in America. Annie does not want to stand in the way of Ethan’s dreams, so she breaks up with him. Fast forward three years later when Manny becomes a patient at the hospital where Annie works. This will bring Ethan back into Annie’s life. Can their past relationship pull them together again? Can Annie trust Ethan with her heart? Can Ethan trust Annie not to break his again?

The idea for this book was a good one. Old flames rekindling the love they once shared. Both of them overcoming some adversity as they learn to love each other again. Throw in some hockey, a lovable “baby” brother, a bossy sports agent and a doctor who wants the heroine and it should set the theme for an entertaining read right? Well, not so much for me. I try very hard to find the good in a book/story/author and overlook the bad. I do not like to give negative reviews because I know each book is important to the person who put it to paper. Each book is a piece of the writer, a story they are sharing with us, the reader. However, I had a very hard time staying focused on this book. It took twice as long to read it than most books I read. I kept having issues with continuity, examples: I was led to believe Annie broke up with Ethan so he could go play hockey. I learned Annie was convinced she could not trust Ethan anymore.

I read a lot of romance books. Probably 3-4 a week. The synopsis looked great and what convinced me to buy the book was the 2 five star reviews. Not sure if the reviews were from friends/family of the author.

This book was awful. The heroine was super negative and the chemistry just wasn't there. I found myself skimming the last few chapters because I didn't care much about the characters. I rarely if ever leave reviews but I felt compelled to so that I can spare a fellow reader from purchasing this horrible book.

This book was a great read; very emotional at times. Annie and Ethan became friends were so came to live with her grandmother. Ethan was completely taken by her right away; he knew she was the girl for him. Annie has had already been through so much at that point and it was hard for her to let people in but she let Ethan in. Eventually their friendship turned into more when they graduated from High School. Shortly after that Ethan was given the opportunity to play professional hockey in the states. This was his dream and he took it. He told Annie they would make it work. Annie post continued to hold her back in some ways and she figured it was better to break things off with Ethan before he realized he could do so much better than her and break it with her crushing her. So that’s exactly what she did. Now three years later she has finished nursing school and has her first job. While at work one night she is given a new patient; Ethan’s brother Manny. Her past is about to collide with her future. She is dating a doctor who works at the same hospital she works at however she knows that she will never feel for him what she feels for Ethan. What will she do when she comes face to face with Ethan? Ethan hates Annie now or at least he thinks he does. She broke it off with him and then changed her number. When he comes to see his brother in the hospital and finds out Annie is Manny’s nurse he imagines saying all kinds of things to her, however when he sees her all that changes. All his feelings for her from before come rushing back. He let her get away once before but he won’t make that mistake again. This book had some twists and turns that made it different from other books like it. I really got into this story.Read more ›
