By finishing this book this series now stands as my longest read series ever. With eight books in the bag, I'm extremely proud to have been able to take part in this amazing world Magen McMinimy has created for us readers with her slew of amazing characters, plot lines, and supernatural creatures. This authoress is certainly one to be praised! In addition to being a super rad chick, she's a kickass, take-names-and-chew-bubble-gum, writer!
In this edition we look into the relationship of Dante and Rachel. Things are tense as Rachel wants to become a vampire, but Dante is hesitant to do it. Before they're given the chance to figure things out a new threat comes to town looking for Sophia and her father, Cain. Once again the crew must band together to fight this new enemy before it destroys everything they all hold dear. The love between Dante and Rachel will be tested during this battle, and their future will hinge on what Dante decides after this brand new epic battle between the Maldera Springs crew and something no one saw coming: an actual demon.
It's sad to think this series is over, but I am not worried because there is a certain spin-off I look forward to reading! Magen McMinimy has provided me, and many other readers, marvelous material worth the sleepless nights and coffee-required days. I can't wait to delve further into the worlds she creates for us in the future!
My overall thoughts of these books: Book one was a great start, left me wanting, then after each book just got better and better. Magen did a great job with this series, and even though it's technically over and she tied loose ends together I still wish there would be more. It's one of those series that makes you feel like you're part of the books, when one of the characters is in danger you want to jump in and help. Or when one gets a heartbreak you want to make the one who hurt them suffer. Each character was their own unique characteristics, but just as when you spend a lot of time with people your feelings and actions rub off on those you love, it does the same with these characters. So each character has similarities to one another as well as their uniqueness to make them individual.
Rachel was pulled from her musings as the front door slammed and she heard Sage bellow her name.
"What?" she hollered as she rounded the corner to the foyer. She gave Sage an amused and questioning look.
"A little help, please?" Sage said, not finding the same apparent humor Rachel was finding in the situation.
"Claire, honey let go. You're safe now," Rachel said for the hundredth time as she attempted to pry Claire's arms off Sage. For how tiny she was, she had one hell of a death grip on his neck; if he were human she would have long ago suffocated him.
"Come on Sage, you're stronger than her, just pry her off of you," Rachel said as she moved from Claire's arm to her legs that were firmly wrapped around his waist.
"I don't want to hurt or frighten her any more than she already is." He groaned.
"Yeah well she might get hurt and certainly frightened if Sophia comes home and see's this," Rachel quipped.
Sage glared and a low growl of frustration rumbled from the back of his throat. "This isn't funny Rachel."
She smiled wide and bright at him. "Riiiggght," she drew the word out. "Irad!" she called out.
"Irad's here already?"
"Yep, he showed up about an hour ago."
A low chuckle manifested from behind Rachel. "Well, well Sage what do we have here?"
Sage growled again as Irad looked him up and down and circled him. "Can you try to not be the ass we all know you are and help get her off of me?"
"I'm not sure an ass would help you at all. I may just leave you to my sister."
"Wow." Rachel chuckled.
"What is it Miss Lawson?" Irad asked while still staring at Sage.
"I can see why you and Ash get along so well; you guys have some super personality flaws in common."
*Ah, this still makes me laugh out loud. I love how Magen, made her characters all basically really possessive of their other halves. Because really, I could picture Sophia walking in and pitching a fit and possibly even ripping the girl off of Sage's body, before she asked questions to find out why there was a girl clinging to her man's body in the first place. Irad was more amusing as well. When he first appeared in the books I seriously hated him with a fiery passion. He was the worst of the worse and to me when everyone accepted back into the family I was pissed. I didn't think he deserved another chance....until this book. Though from this excerpt you don't see much of what I'm talking about... so go buy this book, he really has changed a lot since book 1.
Last Surrender is the 8th and final book in this series. After what seemed life forever, Sophia, her friends and family have all gone back to their homes to enjoy life. Sophia can finally enjoy her marriage and motherhood. With the help of her father and brother's Sophia is learning to lead her new line of Vampires with the support of her husband Sage. She petitions Sophia to have her change who can deny her no more and turns to her father for help. Small problems start to emerge in Maldera Springs with 4 vampires.
