I usually go with popular opinion. If most people love the book, I do too but I didn’t like this one. It was boring. A boy got hurt and I thought they’d at least give cryptic updates about his status throughout the book. It was all about two couple’s dramatic marriages. It was redundant and repetitive. I would not recommend it. I didn’t find it suspenseful or enthralling. I didn’t find any of the characters interesting.

So, I have read most of Mr. Olson's non-fiction books and I really enjoy the "truth is stranger than fiction" aspect of the stories he tells. I have read a few of his novels in the last couple of months and have enjoyed them all. So why write a review for for this one? I particularly like the way this book starts and grabs your attention right from the beginning. Oh, and all twists and turns. A perfect book for a cold winters morning and a good cup of coffee. Just make sure you don't have any plans for the rest of the day.

I have read a few of Gregg Olsen's books and he is a good writer, the subject matter here is hard to stomach and you have to brace yourself.I read a lot of thrillers and I'm sure they are getting more vivid in their descriptions once you get past that though the book is good but definitely not for those of a nervous disposition ,the pace of the book is good and I did enjoy it and will read more books by this author in the future.I would say that this is a good book and well worth a read as long as you are aware there are upsetting scenes.

The Passionate Writer

I couldn't get on with the way this story is set out. Apart from the disturbing scenario at the beginning, which sets the tone of the whole story (even though it seems a bit implausible), each chapter seems devoted to the personal trials and tribulations of one character or family.

I felt that got in the way of the flow of the story and I kept on skipping whole pages so I could try and pick up what happened next. Reading other reviews it seems like this doesn't always trouble readers so, if you don't mind a long, drawn out narrative, you may well be able to plough through the style of writing to find out what happens in the end.

Personally I gave up a few chapters in. Perhaps I should have persevered and may pick it up again one day. But it didn't captivate me in the way I expected it to and in the way other thriller writers have managed with similar storylines.

So, this was one of many selections I've made on the 'Kindle First' programme that Amazon prime customers gain access to. After loving the blurb and cover, I was desperate to get a first read of this new book. The story was about Liz and Owen and about their strive for happiness, through a series of devastating choices, and a closer look on how lies can spiral out of control and snowball rapidly.

It was a thought provoking psychological thriller, but I did struggle with just "getting" into the storyline as I most often do. I think there were a lot of unanswered questions, And the end was left open for the follow up, but beware of cliffhanger with this book.

I can't say I loved it, but it kept my attention, and by the final 40% I flew through it, I just wish that had been the same for the rest! I will certainly be keeping my eyes peeled for the follow up book to see if the next story fills in some of the blanks for me. Overall an enjoyable read, but advise readers to stick with it.

You just can't ever know what's in someone's heart...Not based on how they look, the money they have, their education, whatever. Sometimes there's a lot of ugly behind perfection....
...The truth is we can't know what's behind someone's emotions. Half the time we project what we think we'd be feeling if we found ourselves in the same dire situation. Empathy is often misplaced.

Really!!@ if you want to know the colour of the sky, the shape of the leaves on the trees, a description of gravel, exactly what people are wearing,how the light shines on things , blah blah blah this book is for you! Pages and PAGES of needless description and narrative, just skipped all the blurb and read the good stuff, last 20% of book was the best, sorry Greg but you blether too much

Not one of the best books I have read, but also not one of the worst I struggled with this one. You find out quite early on in the book what has happened and then the rest of the book details how the different characters deal with this. Basically it is a story about a number of dysfunctional relationships - not pleasant to read. I can't say that I liked any of the characters in the book either. Without giving any details away, the plot of the book is very clever.... I wouldn't read this book again and I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends.
