1. Page 21: Emperor Nicholas II almost died of "Typhoid" at Livadia and not of "intestinal typhus" as stated. These are entirely different diseases and there is no such condition as "intestinal" typhus.
2. Page 314: In discussing Grand Duke Kirill, Mr. Crawford refers to Kirill's "German-born wife Ducky." However, the Grand Duchess Victoria was actually born in Malta in 1876. Her parents were Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh, and the Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna, so she was not a German princess except very indirectly.
3. Page 24: The author states that Grand Duke Dimitri and his sister Grand Duchess Marie were brought up by Nicholas and Alexandra. However, as is well known, the primary responsibility for their care and upbringing after their father, Grand Duke Paul, went into exile was assumed by Grand Duke Sergei (the Tsar's uncle) and Grand Duchess Elizabeth, the latter being the sister of Empress Alexandra.
Apart from these minor quibbles, the book is well-researched and is an excellent contribution to knowledge about Grand Duke Michael. The details about his family life in Gatchina and his exile in Perm are particularly interesting.
government representatives determined to get him to abdicate. There are minute factual mistakes, but Crawford makes a strong case for Michael's importance in the last days of Romanov rule.
