This was a fun read. It was enjoyable to revisit the characters from the trilogy. Although I had read most of the short stories before reading the trilogy (they were available on the author's website), it was enlightening to read them again now and see the many tie-ins to the novels. The deleted scenes provided some less interesting background development for the characters (they were cut from the final version for a reason), but the novella was a very good epilogue to the main story. All in all a very good use of a few hours. I'm looking forward to the author's future books.

What can I say? It delivers what it promises. I appreciate that the author was very upfront about this not being a standalone story, as the short stories don't feature much of a compelling plot of their own (and the deleted scenes, obviously, even more so). The exceptions are "The Spymaster" and "The Iron King"; together these offer a very nice insight in the political games of a fictional realm. And the other stories aren't bad, either, just heavily reliant on their connection to the trilogy. The epilogue story was, as expected, the most interesting segment. I couldn’t help but feel that the plot and themes were mostly a retread of those in the original novels, and the ending felt a bit too much like a cop-out, but it was still enjoyable. Seeing what the immediate future holds adds some depth to the world and its history.

In the end, I would recommend this if you enjoyed all three primary novels. Personally, by the third book I'd become quite irritated with the gratuitous sex and a writing style that leaves nothing to the reader's interpretation, and both are sadly apparent in this piece as well (although, again as promised, the epilogue handles the sexual content much better). However, since this is so explicitly a supplement to the main trilogy, it'd be silly to judge it too harshly for this. You liked the trilogy, and you want more? This is what you need.
