Linh Davies is a young doctor just beginning her career as a medical professional. She works the graveyard shift as an E.R. doctor. She also has a secret. If she is touching someone as they die, that person's soul becomes trapped in her body. At the start of the story, Linh has three souls with her. One is an older gentleman that was a doctor, one is a woman that obsesses over Jason Stackhouse from True Blood, and the other is a teenage girl. Linh can free these souls by doing whatever their last wish is.
As Linh's shift is near it's conclusion, a teenage girl and her father are brought into the E.R. after being in a horrible car crash. As Linh is attempting to save the girl, the girl dies. Linh happened to be touching her when she passed away. The new soul stuck with Linh, Elizabeth, also has a last wish....to see her father killed. Linh has no intentions of murdering anyone, but something different happens with this new soul. Elizabeth can take control of Linh's body. The rest of the story is a very unique tale of cat and mouse, supernatural suspense, and a fair amount of humor. I won't discuss the rest of the story in order to keep this review spoiler free.
I couldn't help but notice how much this book felt like it belonged in the True Blood universe. That's not a bad thing at all. The flow of the novel feels very much like the Sookie Stackhouse series of novels. The pacing is quick and there never are any parts that lull. Romance, horror, suspense, and humor are all blended together nicely to deliver a very satisfying read.
My only complaint with the story is the lack of backstory in how Linh came to have this power. A few characters seem a little one dimensional, but that doesn't make the story any less enjoyable. It is a quick read, but it still entertained the heck out of me. I look forward to reading more from this author.

So colour me wary. I liked the premise, though, and thought I'd give it a shot. I'm glad I did. This is that rare free book that rewards you for downloading it. It reads quickly and is well-paced, with a fun supernatural foundation that is strong enough to amuse and to scare.
I'll leave it here before I risk including any spoilers, but suffice to say that I will definitely be looking out for the next in the series when it arrives, and to recommend to anyone burned by the free book experience to give this one a try.
