This book is a brilliant account of the final year for the Kriegsmarine. It is the story of a doomed generation of sailors who bravely and hopelessly went to battle knowing that theirs was a hopeless cause. Tarrant (as usual) provides an interseting text, and keeps the book moving along. For example, he gives an exceptional account of the activities of the minor surface units the German navy had in the Mediterranean.
I wish he would write such detail on the other years of the war. I would gladly buy those books and read them right away.
