This is an exceptionally well-curated selection of Latino fiction about Los Angeles - an enjoyable read but also a great insight into the culture and history of LA. The short stories and excerpts are a great way to try out new writers that readers may not be familiar with and if you are interested in California/Latino writing this is a great place to start.

Great writing and a very unusual geographic commonality, not to mention cultural, but that's not why you'll live it. It's an excellent collection--I laughed quite a bit and even teared up a few times. Well worth the read--you will enjoy these tales and probably learn something!

I'm sorry, but this anthology is absolute crap. I had to order this for a writing class a few years ago and the anthology collaborator came in to lecture. He was absolutely nuts. My professor was also one of the authors of a short story, which was also terrible. I honestly wish this was a better book, because it had so much potential... but its like reading crap literature then trying to ascribe quality and devices to something that's just awful. I'm sure the authors all thought that the stories were great, but I handed this to other professors in the department at that school as well as others and after they read the collaborator's story "Bender" in the book they laughed because its terrible.... Don't waste your money.
