When he dies, Celeste must bear her shame and regret alone. And for a while, she flounders in despair. But then, a sweet little girl in her special education classroom tugs on her heart and helps heal Celeste's wounds. She pours herself into her job as a special education teacher, growing increasingly attached to sweet little Lily, a special needs' child with frequent smiles and hugs. What Celeste doesn't know is, the biggest surprise of all awaits.
This beautiful story of hope and forgiveness reaches into the deepest recesses of women's hearts, encouraging them to hold tight to those they hold dear. It also reminds us that love and purpose can come in the most unexpected packages, often when we're not looking.
This novel brought tears, which quickly turned to celebration and laughter as Eileen Rife wove together a delightful, romantic ending. Truly a wonderful, heart-tugging story I recommend to anyone who enjoys women's fiction and romance.
Before she has a chance to tell Joe the truth, he is killed in a fire. The buried guilt, of course, makes the pain of mourning worse, and Celeste focuses in on a darling little girl from her class, Lily, with the half-empty sweater arm, who doesn't quite understand the world around her. Yet, Lily understands life in ways that stun Celeste. She's a gift of joy who starts Celeste's heart on a path toward healing.
But, though this is a story full of people and life, of grace and hope, it's also woven with intriguing twists and turns that would have kept me reading even if I didn't love to laugh with Lily. A favorite read of the decade, and one you will be glad you grabbed.
I actually read this aloud to my husband and we talked. My Joe and me. It opened doors i thought were long shut, unlocked a long-held secret. All thanks to this one book.
Others have given a synopsis so let me just say that Laughing with Lily will grab hold of your heart and not let go, you'll grin and then you'll tear up, and i bet you'll murmur an oh wow or two!
SO well written that i'd give 10 stars if i could.
