Love Laura Pausini. This is a real treat! My favorites are Jingle Bell Rock, Jingle Bells, Va a Nevar, and It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas. I like new stuff, but the classics are called that for a reason.

I love Patrick Williams charts and always have!!! I was so excited to hear that Pat was releasing a new album. I sat down and listened to the entire album twice, before making my conclusion. I love the arrangements and the playing. What I am so shocked with is the loud volume of the vocals. The vocal swells alone nearly drown out the entire orchestra behind her. This type of mixing and post production is something usually only seen in self producing demos and maybe in karaoke bars. There are so many instances where the vocal blends in with the harmony of the orchestra. Instead, the vocals are piercing through my speakers to where I have to immediately adjust the volume or my speakers will blow. Then, when the vocals are tacet, I have to crank the volume back up to hear the orchestra or I hear nothing. The last chord of "Jingle Bell Rock" is really dissonant and wonderful and matching the lead trumpet note, with the vocal, is a Diane Schuur trick that is really wonderful. However, having the vocal fall off the lead trumpet note before the band cuts off gives off the oppression that the vocalist has never sung with a large ensemble before, or at any rate, lacks stylistic tact and class. I am pretty sure that was not what Mr. Williams had in mind when writing the music for this album. Since Pat Williams and Laura Pausini are listed as album producers, I am going to assume it was Laura's idea to have the vocal mix this way. Once again, I will always be a giant fan of Pat Williams music. However, I am going to forget this album is in my collection.
