Want to know a little bit more about Denise? She's a Southern girl who has lived in Louisiana all her life, and yes, she has a drawl. She has a wonderful husband and two incredible children, who not only endure her moods but also encourage her to indulge her writing passion. Accounting is a skill she learned to earn a little money to support her writing habit. Besides writing paranormal suspense, she holds a part-time job in public accounting and enjoys traveling, reading, and scrapbooking.
She wrote her first story when she was a teen, seventeen handwritten pages on school-ruled paper and an obvious rip-off of the last romance novel she had read. She's been writing off and on ever since, and with twenty-two stories already published and fourteen still available for purchase, she plans to continue releasing new books for years to come. In 2015, her Haunted Hearts series sold over 19,000 copies, placing the series on Amazon's best-seller list of ghost thrillers for over a year.

I’ve read several books by this author now, but this is by far my favorite! The creep factor of the haunted house mixed in with Laurel’s horrible past and all the things she’s running from while trying to rebuild her life. It is a compelling read that left me pouring over my Kindle well into the night.

I liked Laurel from the start, identifying with her introverted ways, while sympathizing with what her jerk of an ex did to her. Of course, Chase makes great hero material. Who doesn’t like a sexy handyman? So much was happening throughout the book with a great mystery underlying it all, but I enjoyed the paranormal aspects most of all.

If you like mysteries, romance, or a great paranormal read, don’t miss this one! Five stars!!

While I did finish this book, it was with an effort. I really didn't feel all that connected to the main 2 characters. They both irritated me for different reasons. Once you stop caring about the main characters it is hard to finish a book. I am glad that I did finish it because the ending was worth reading the whole book. Unlike another reviewer, I thought that everything was explained and tied up.
Please do not go by my opinion if you are a fan of romance novels with paranormal aspects. I am not a romance novel fan. I will read them only if there is death or mystery involved. That is probably why the main characters got on my nerves.

** spoiler alert ** I received this book for an honest review.

This is my very first book to review, so here we go!

I liked the premise of the book. I could compare the story line to Kristen Ashley and her Ghosts and Reincarnation series, with the house that comes furnished with ghosts and secrets.

At times I felt that some of the internal dialog could have been shortened. I want to led to the conclusion, not told about it a couple of different times in varying ways. Having the reader come up with their own conclusions through out the read is half the fun.

As I was reading along, it surprised me that all of sudden that Laurel and Chase had feelings for each other. I was taken aback at the level of possessiveness of Chase so early in the book.

Laurel has gone through hell, that is apparent, but her willingness to let her walls down so easily around Chase, (Rand's brother), not knowing the connection, subjected to neglect and abuse at the hands of the people that should have protected her, left me confused.

There are many questions that are left unanswered by the end of the book. I would have like to know how Laurel and Rand got together. What is going to happen to the house? Is Rand involved in the murder of Angie? What about the bank codes? Will the bad guys get to Rand in jail, or is he available to act out his revenge from the comfort of a cell? Chase still owes his brother, I am sure this thought was not lost on Rand. At the end of the book all the branches of Laurel's family tree are revealed. Can someone just turn their back, without the possibility of knowing the other's side of the story. What about Celeste's story? Why was James kept and not Laurel?

I absolutely loved this book but made the mistake of reading it at night, unable to put it down and omg! not a book to be read at night. There were so many twists and turns and the scare factor for me was amazing along with the growing love story as well! Brilliantly done, I can't wait to read more books by this author!

Not only is this a good murder mystery, but sometimes a great ghost story. I enjoyed the writing, the suspense, and found myself not being able to put this book down. I understand this is the start of a series that I am looking forward to reading. I am hoping that the main characters , Chase and Laurel find the happiness that they deserved, but I have the feeling, that the scars that were left by this house will still have to be dealt with in the future!!

The violence from the the first page was enough for me to close the book but I read on.....for a bit. The main character, Laurel, who was physically abused from page one by her boyfriend, then to have the brother of her abusive boyfriend travel cross country to find her just to settle a debt with his now incarcerated abusive drug dealing brother took it a few notches over the top and this was still just the beginning of the book. Seemed like standard poor late night TV fare. Left me not interested in reading further.

it was a very well written story one step above most of the paranormal stuff floating around out there. I am very busy reading the books that have followed they are all related and getting better with every book. I heartily recommend it. Unlike most of paranormal books this is not just another woman inherits haunted house and redecorates and oh yeah there are ghosts.

Everything you look for in a ghost story!! Be prepared once you start this book it will be impossible to put it down!! Denise Moncrief has an amazing gift for telling a truly spooky spine-chilling story (be prepared for the goose-bumps)!
Her characters are so well developed and interesting making the reader that much more invested in the story...cheering for main characters!
FYI: Although this is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone however if the rest of her books are anything like this one you will want the rest!
