Mediocre coffee at an exceptional price

This coffee in respect to flavor is just okay. Its not that it is bad per se, but I find its flavor profile to be leaning more in the unpleasant side of the spectrum for my tastes. I prefer my espresso to be nutty, sweet, with subtle woody undertones. I don't like event the slightest hint of any dissonant flavors. This coffee goes in the other direction being more earthy, slightly acidic, with strong dark chocolate undertones (like 80+% cacao dark chocolate). I can't stand dark chocolate so I do not care for how this shot finishes for that reason alone. There is also a subtle acrid or burnt undertone which I find unbearable in all foods except barbecue. This may be okay if you plan on adding steamed milk or other flavorings, but in a pure shot comparison, I find this flavor profile to be less desirable and believe you can do MUCH better with other beans. I also found this coffee to be very temperamental and unforgiving as far as dialing in my machine. You must get the dose, grind, tamp, and brew pressure just right to get this in the sweet spot where it is not overwhelmingly bitter or sour. The window is smaller for this coffee than I have experienced with others, although that could be just the product of me trying to limit as much as possible the elements of the flavor profile that I don't care for. Where this really shines is when you take the price into consideration. There is no better deal anywhere than this coffee. This is less than half the price of say Starbucks beans and about 1/3 the price of Illy beans. While Those brands taste much better in my opinion, I'm not ready to say that are 2-3x better. You really do get a stupid amount of espresso for the price. As for freshness, forget it. These are not optimal--as in 1-3 weeks old. They are about as fresh as any beans you could get in a super market. So overall... not great, not terrible, but an exceptional bargain.

This is the first time I was not able to pull a reasonable shot from any Lavazza coffee. It lacked body, creama and was overly acidic regardless of my machine settings. I used a La Marzocco machine and varied temperature and a high quality Compak grinder. I even tried to pull a shot on a lever machine but still got only the same thin, watery acidic shot. I typically prefer a medium roast but this was very disappointing. Other medium roasts behave quite differently. Was this a bad batch or is something else at work? In any case, I will not buy again.

I've been drinking Lavazza Caffe Espresso black bag for over a decade now. I prepare it in a moka pot and I've started to drink it with high fat Oatly. It's so divinely delicious. I’ve had many guests comment on how fantastic it is prepared this way, with comments like, “I wanna come over for coffee more often.” The flavor is prominent, yet on the mild to medium scale; very flavorful, yet very smooth with an almost *slightly* nutty flavor to it. It is not hazelnut flavored, nothing like that at all (you know how subjective these flavor profile descriptions are). Sometimes mild to medium flavored beans have almost nothing to them. I end up asking, "where's the flavor?" Not with this espresso and this preparation method. It’s also fantastic with regular milk as a traditional cappuccino or just straight up with nothing else in it. I’ve never had this Lavazza made in a fancy espresso machine, only in a percolator-style moka pot, so I don’t know how the different preparation method might change the end result as far as flavor. Sometimes I’ll make it in a french press as a coffee (versus a true espresso) and while it’s good this way, it’s nothing special. From my experience, the moka pot is absolutely where it’s at for this espresso. I've tried a lot of coffees over the years, and this is the one I keep coming back to.

The perfect medium roast! What more do you want? The taste is just right and I can’t imagine you’ll get tired of it. Youll enjoy a pleasant americano or a smooth yet rich cup of cappuccino with this one. I only drink the best quality, and this is hard to beat. Just watch out for small pieces of wood and rocks ;)

This is like my third order from Amazon for Lavazza coffee and it seems to be hit or miss. The last 2.2 lb. bag I bought had a tiny tear on it and the envelope it was sent in smelled like coffee before I even opened it. These last two bags came well-packed in a box (sender was "Italia Best Coffee") and both bags were still vacuum sealed. I'm happy with the flavor of Lavazza coffee, there's a reason why common people in Italy drink this stuff! I make espresso with it, french press and even a Moka once in a while! This particular blend is very robust but not as acidic as other coffee blends in the same price range. I love this coffee and thank you to Italia Best Coffee for the great packaging!

Love this coffee. Have purchased it several times. This time one bag arrived with pinholes. Never would have noticed but one bag was pressurized and the other had lost its seal. No damage to outer shipping box, damage was to plastic sleeve wrapping the two bag set and one coffee bag. Had to go to the trouble of sending it back. Will purchase from a different distributor in the future.

I recently bought an expensive espresso/coffee machine. I was reading in the comment section one person said Lavazza beans were the best for this machine. I took a chance and bought 2 bags and I was not disappointed. I am amazed at the difference how these coffee beans taste. Not a bit of bitterness. My son in law is a rabid coffee drinker and when he came over I made him a latte machiatto (coffee and steamed milk). Apparently he couldn't stop raving over that coffee to my daughter. She said he must have mentioned how much he liked it 6 times. Well, I feel the same way. I just bought 2 more bags.
