Editorial Reviews

"The author gave us the whole package: sweet, sexy, with a sprinkle of angst, and a lovely happily ever after. Highly recommend." Gay Book Reviews"

When I finished the book I had a huge smile on my face. This was a wonderful, character-driven romance, a book that left me happily sighing by the end. Plus, is was hot! Bonus!" Sinfully Gay Romance Book Reviews

The Law of Attraction
is the perfect office romance: strong MCs, hot sex in inappropriate places, workplace camaraderie, and a smoldering undercurrent of (un)fulfilled sexual tension." My Fiction Nook

"This is a trope that has been done a billion times. But Northcote put a spin on this that made it fresh, and I read this story in a devouringly short amount of time. There is nothing about this that says 'this has been done.'" Gay Book Reviews

Alec is a hardworking corporate attorney hoping to make partner in his law firm. He puts in extraordinary hours as he has nothing else to do with himself. He’s a deeply-closeted gay man who’s hidden his orientation ever since that fateful day he was expelled from school for having a dalliance with a schoolmate–and that wasn’t even the worst that happened to him that day.

Ed is a newly-minted attorney, back in London and seeking employment. The weekend before he’s due to report at a firm as a temporary associate, he’s out with his flatmate and gets picked up by a suave wealthy older man. Alec. Their connection is immediate. Ed’s not a player, and he doesn’t go for older guys, per se, but something about Alec’s swagger turns him on. And, it’s the same for Alec. He usually hits on mealy-mouthed younger men who’d never challenge him in any way, but Ed stands up for himself. Demands a drink and some conversation before he allows himself to be wooed.

Their night together is incendiary. Neither has the guts to call it quits, and they share Alec’s bed in his barren home. The morning after is worse than s***e, but it becomes all the more complicated when Ed turns up as the temp on Alec’s team handling a huge hotel merger. Alec’s so fearful of Ed revealing his dark secret, and Ed’s a peach.

Lookit, I loved the book. I didn’t always love Alec, but Ed–he’s a dream. A good dream. The kind you wake from and immediately wish you could fall back to sleep into. He’s kind and charming and funny, and hardworking–even surpassing Alec’s insane work ethic. Alec’s in turmoil. He’s so attracted and so scared and so bitter seeing Ed openly admitting to his sexuality and it being accepted without a qualm.

Deeply closeted 32-year-old super lawyer Alec has a real problem: Ed, the adorable younger man he hooked up with on Friday walks into his office on Monday as the new junior member of his team. Not only is this a shock to both of them but it's deeper than that because Alec asked Ed to stay the night, which he never has done, and Ed is not one to hide his sexual preferences.

The back and forth between these two, in and out of the office, may seem to take on a bit of surrealism when you are reading it, but then something clicks into place and you find it all quite credible. Alec has simply fallen head over heels but does not know it because he never has done so, and Ed refuses to be Alec's dirty little secret if they want to get involved because he has fallen in love.

There are a few fine lines here which Jay Northcote crosses with great aplomb and the manner in which she brings about a resolution to the affair is sweet, gentle, and most of all hopeful. This is a lovely, sometimes bumpy, and occasionally very steamy, book and deserves attention.

I loved the premise for The Law of Attraction – two men, one hot hook-up, no strings and then when you think it’s over and have walked away, the other guy ends up being your boss. So, yes I went into this book already thinking I’d enjoy the story line, plus it’s a Jay Northcote book so that always a good sign, but this story really was so much more!

I have to admit that despite his hotness I wasn’t Alec’s biggest fan at first. He doesn’t really seem to treat people all that well in general and his treatment of Ed really got to me. BUT, the more we get to know him and understand why he is the way he is, I totally fell for him. He’s difficult and a bit mean sometimes, but the more I got to see him open up with Ed, I got to see how truly special he is.

Ed is such a wonderful character, I absolutely loved him immediately. He is such a genuinely good guy! Despite the initially odd situation with Alec he doesn’t let it stop him and works hard to earn his spot. He’s a strong man who certainly challenges Alec, but also doesn’t back down and won’t settle for less that what he really deserves.

The relationship that builds between Alec and Ed definitely isn’t an easy one, but it truly is beautiful. Alec has lived deep and alone in his closet for years, but meeting Ed and seeing his light is exactly what Alec really needs in his life.

I really loved this story, from start to end! There was a very realistic flow to this story and the characters. They had such great chemistry together, yes hot and sexy but they also just fit together. I loved these two together and their story made my heart happy! (And there’s an epic spider story in here too – and personally, I’m with Ed!)

The Law of Attraction is another great book from Jay Northcote and I truly look forward to reading more from her!

ay Northcote is outstanding and, her characters Alec and Ed were magical together with or without the Harry Potter duvet.

Alec had the world. He has the job he has always wanted, is on track to make partner at the firm, he is young and attractive, and is financially well off. Alec should be feeling on top on of the world. In reality, Alec is deeply closeted and it is a very dark, lonely and miserable place. All that changes when Ed comes into his life.

Feeling lonely and horny, Alec heads to gay bar and spots Ed. Ed pushes all of Alec's buttons physically and, he takes him home. Alec is more than a little disconcerted when he also feels a tiny spark of something - something more than just physical. Alec doesn't have the courage explore that spark. He allowed Ed to spend the night and, Alec has never done that before. Driven by fear, he hastily ushers Ed out the door the next morning.

Fate can be a fickle bitch. Alec and Ed are both shocked to their cores come Monday morning. The new temp hired by Alec's firm is none other than Ed. Watching these two navigate this mine field is a spectacular read. The physical pull between them only gets stronger (hotter) and the emotional connection deepens. (Loved the trip to Scotland and the killer spider.)

Alec realizes that in order to have Ed in his life he has to come out of his closet. He is 32 and finding that courage will not be easy. Longing to be with Ed and more importantly being able to finally be proud of himself will help him find the way.

Ed's family was everything a family should be - warm, caring and loving. In contrast, Alec's parents were cold and distant. I could not understand his mother's reaction when she finds out what her husband did to Alec when he was a teenager.
