About the Author
Jessica Knauss, PhD, grew up in McKinleyville, California. She graduated as valedictorian of her class with multiple honors from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. At the University of Iowa, she translated a novel by the Spanish feminist Lidia Falcón, earning an MFA in Literary Translation. She first seriously studied the works of Alfonso X, el Sabio for her MA in Medieval Studies at the University of Leeds, England. The present book is the revised result of research and writing undertaken for her dissertation in medieval Spanish literature at Brown University. In the course of her academic career, she has studied and done research in Córdoba, Sevilla, and Salamanca, Spain. Jessica now enjoys a career as a fiction and creative non-fiction editor. In 2011, she founded Açedrex Publishing in order to bring good literature in Spanish and about Spain in English to a larger reading public. She is working on a novel set in tenth-century Spain.
