Editorial Reviews

Unrelenting, powerful and full of twists, Law & Order remains TV’s longest running crime series of all time. Honored with 11 consecutive Primetime Emmy® Award nominations for Outstanding Drama Series and an amazing 50 Primetime Emmy® Award nominations since its inception, this acclaimed and intelligent series continues to captivate audiences with its provocative storylines ripped from today’s news headlines. And now, the entire Seventh Year—all 23 groundbreaking episodes—are available on DVD in this five-disc collector’s set. Carey Lowell joins returning stars Benjamin Bratt, Sam Waterston and Jerry Orbach as they take on new cases that deal with everything from explosive race relations to poisonous blood relations. Also featuring guest stars Taye Diggs, Edie Falco, Lauren Graham, Felicity Huffman, Jennifer Esposito and more, it’s hard-hitting viewing that sets the bar for every other legal drama ever made.

One of my favorite seasons, Law and Order Season 7 has a little bit of everything. While one of the previous reviewers complains about what they call the predictable "body found-investigation-arrest-trial" pattern of Law and Order, what they fail to recognize is the case variety and the myriad issues involved that make each episode unique. While it's true that the show seems to follow a certain pattern, the underlying causes and the secondary issues at play in each episode makes the show relevant after all these years. While "Good Girl" and "Entrapment" return to the familiar Law and Order territory of racial conflict and and police misconduct rears its head in "Corruption", "I.D." deals with identity theft and sexual harrassment (from a judge), and "Mad Dog" deals with the controversial issue of dealing with rapists/sex offenders post-incarceration, to cite just two examples.

If u love to watch law and order the way i do this is a must own season which includes some of the best episodes with detective Lenny Briscoe (Jerry Orbach ) and detective Ray Curtis ( Benjamin Bratt ) also joining the cast is newly appointed assistant Jamie Ross ( Carey Lowell ) to a.d.a Jack Mccoy (Sam Waterston ). Included in this season is a three part episode that takes the cast from new york to L.A. and back. also i could list every episode and main theme but that would take up too much space in my opinion this is one of the best season on sale to date and the season finale episode is one you will never forget. which takes the
D.A. adam schiff from a capitol punishment involved case to his personal decision on his wife's life who is on life support. I would definetly recommend this season this anyone who is a fan of law and order. ( i can't wait till season 8 goes on sale).

I watched Law & Order on Netflix, seasons 1-8, straight through. Unfortunately, Netflix had no seasons after 8 and, now, they don't have the rights to it any longer. I've been purchasing the seasons that I most enjoy and that I'll watch over and over. What I've found most interesting as I re-watch this season is my appreciation for Carey Lowell (Jamie Ross). Perhaps her talent and her character were overshadowed by the death of Claire Kincaid, which was a surprise to me when I first watched the show. Carey Lowell (Jamie Ross) is great, for a number of reasons. The contrast between Ross and Kincaid is also what the show needed rather than attempt to replace Kincaid with a similar character, which would have been doomed, given viewer fondness for Claire Kincaid (myself included). So what is it about Jamie Ross that sets her apart? In the beginning, it's clear that she pushes at McCoy's backing off on on "giving 'em the max." The after-effects of Season 6's last episode, which focused on the team witnessing a death-penalty lethal injection, appear to have left McCoy timid at the opening of the season, willing to cut deals that he'd have never considered in the past. Ross opens with: "Jack, I believe in monsters and things that go bump in the night, and may they all rot in hell." Ross' aggressiveness and unwillingness to defer to McCoy are new experiences for him, I think. Ross is more sexualized than Kincaid, but appropriately so. She carries herself more as a woman (she's not rail-thin, barely filling out her business suit) and she'll connect with people in a more emotional manner than did Kincaid. I find her interesting as a woman. Kincaid's feminism was often dismissed by Schiff and McCoy, and I think that Claire deferred more than she'd have liked.Read more ›

The only reason I purchased 7 & 8 L&O was Carey Lowell aka Jamie Ross ADA. She followed the best Jill Hennessey and she did not disappoint. She gave McCoy a run for his money and stood up to him many times in 7 & 8. In all honesty I don't like Sam Waterston and I do not understand his longevity with the series? He's to Republican for me and unlike Michael Moriarty I don't believe he shed a tear or emotion in any of his episodes. It's hard to BEST Michael Moriarty but I understand the weekly toll it takes on the actors.

Not the best series, but I reallllllly wanted to watch it after the repeats on USA (or is it TNT?) stopped out of order...

High quality packaging and well-done DVD menus, so if you are into the series, this is for you.

SPOILER ALERT. The last of the great Law & Order seasons. It goes downhill after Jamie leaves and becomes sensationalized. Lots of great criminal procedure issues in this season. I also love the dynamics between Jamie and Jack. After Claire dying in the previous season, it's nice to see Jack having a healthy platonic professional relationship with a woman rather than hitting on all his ADAs.

One of the Lennie Briscoe years of L&O. The glory years. Need I say more?

More than any other actor in TV history, the late Jerry Orbach defined(!) the "plain clothes cop". In fact, each and every one of the L&O years before Steven Hill left was a glorious one. With Diane Wiest, through no fault of her own, the slow but steady decline began.

It's vastly entertaining, but you can learn a thing or to about the criminal justice system!

DVD quality is excellent, extras are a-ok.
