Editorial Reviews

In 1991, the legendary Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Co., Queen) and powerhouse drummer Kenney Jones (The Faces, The Who) teamed up as THE LAW & delivered one incredible smash album. Although a short venture, it's been an enduring chapter in the career of both superstars. With some major player help from David Gilmour
(Pink Floyd), Bryan Adams, Chris Rea, and Pino Palladino (The Who), the album netted the duo a #1 AOR Smash Laying Down The Law. This long over due re-issue is now a Deluxe Edition...remastered and includes the very rare and unreleased gem That's When You Fall In Love.If you missed this the first time around, catch up with THE LAW today! Remastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso (Doobie Brothers, Johnny Winter, David Lee Roth, Paul Rodgers, Deep Purple)

Includes new liner notes, rare photos and ultra rare promo and radio single artwork.

I've owned this disc since it came out and it's a very underrated album that I still listen to today. I have not heard the previously unreleased song, except for the 30 second sample here, but it sounds like a good one. My favorite track on this disc is "Laying Down the Law" which is one of Rodgers' best songs since the early Bad Company days. Other standout tracks are: "Stone Cold", "For a Little Ride", "Nature of the Beast" and "Stone". There really isn't a bad song on this disc. From Free to his recent work with Queen (I am looking forward to their new studio album) Paul Rodgers is still one of the best rock, blues and soul singers and my all-time favorite.

I always scoffed at this album not giving it the credit it deserved. Most of this was due to the fact that I had never owned or listened to the album. Well, I finally bought a cd copy of the original cd, without the extra track, at the flea market. So, here I am now having listened to the cd two or three times. It doesn't matter if the songs don't knock you out the way Free, Bad Company or The Firm might have. This is a very worthy addition to your cd collection if you are a fan of Paul Rodger's voice. These songs are definitely understated. I'd say that some of these songs hearken back a little to a mellow Firm or Bad Company song. There is no band here that is going to knock you out. It seems mostly this was just a studio album with studio players and some special guests. I suppose the reason this band didn't get quite off the ground was because there really wasn't a real band. Think Tom Schloz of Boston fame working in the studio and then having had the late great Bradley Delp coming in to add his sublime vocals. This might not be a very accurate comparison but I'm just saying that from scanning the cd insert it doesn't seem to list a solid band, a lead guitarist, a bass player, etc. Yes, there was the drummer who was the other half of the band and Paul Rodgers played piano on I think the song "The Law". Anyway, the greatest fact of this recording is that it captured Paul Rodgers when he still had that amazing voice. His voice was starting to change and weaken by the time he got around to that blues cd that he did say around 1994, the one with Louisiana Blues. I think the album was called something like Muddy Water Blues. Anyway, I never quite cared for the blues numbers, or not most of them. Paul's voice today is nothing like it was on The Law cd.Read more ›

The law was a good rock band with two great musicians in it. Many of the songs are very well written and reminded me of Paul Rodgers solo stuff or Bad Company. There isn't a bad song on this cd and the bonus track makes it a even better purchase.
I miss good ole rock and roll discs like this one. It's just two talented people laying down the law music wise. AOR was like that , alot of quality music and really talented artists who made great, well written music. However for obvious reasons if you are not a Paul Rodgers fan you won't like this one because he sings every song on it. His voice sounds as good as ever on this one though.

This is one of the best Paul Rodgers releases...ever. It has been missing for far too long off the shelves and if you haven't heard it and you're a PR or Bad Company fan, it is a MUST have.

This is a great album. Every song is good. Rodgers has some great vocals on this and the added bonus track is a nice touch on the deluxe edition. It definitely has a little overproduction at times, which is typical of some 90's albums but still great.

I bought this disc because I think Paul is a great rock singer. If you like Bad Company and The Firm you'll probably like this too. I just got this disc and hadn't heard this music since sometime in the '90s. It actually sounds more '80s to me. Recording quality is ok but certainly could be better. It's not as compressed at many nowadays but still could be a bit cleaner particularly in the midrange. This is the remaster and I don't have an original to compare to. The crazy thing is that some remasters sound worse than the originals.
