As Lea & Perrins was originally imported from England, the delicate glass bottles were wrapped in paper to protect them from the rough conditions of ship transport. |
Lea & Perrins contains anchovies and therefore is not vegetarian or vegan-friendly. |
With origins in the early 1800s, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce was brought to the U.S. in 1839, making it the oldest commercially bottled condiment. |

UPDATE - March 2018: Got a replacement bottle for the first spoiled one. Well, the replacement is from the same lot. The second is also spoiled. Amazon is going to escalate this issue, toss the bad stuff and hopefully, get a new lot of it. My lamb marinade won't be the same without it... well, unless I want to buy the expensive stuff in the glass bottle.
UPDATE - June 2018: It's a new batch now!!! Fresh smelling, proper tasting (just like from the bottle), no collected sediment on the bottom of the bottle. And, the manufacturing date is different.

If I had one negative it would be that this bottle is big and unwieldy. I think I might buy one of the little bottles one more time and then refill it with this.
There were lots of comments about the flavor and I am pretty particular about this and haven't noticed any difference. It does seem it may be a bit more watery texture-wise, but not in taste. Ex: It doesn't TASTE watery it just has less thick of a texture as it usually has in the tiny bottles. As someone mentioned, if you shake it before use, which you are supposed to do anyway, this makes it a little thicker.
I love this on pork chops, hamburgers, I add a touch to pan sauces, and sometimes I even use a bit in salad dressings. Tastes great!
It lasts in the big bottle but I decant it into a small bottle much easier to use.
The price difference is incredible, you could toss about half of this and still save money.
A gallon seems like a lot, but one of my neighbors gets in in 55 gal drums - of course
he packages food for retail sale in supermarkets. (GRIN)
We've tried other Worcestershire's, but nothing can beat the Lea and Perrins for flavor, especially if you do a lot of home cooking. Other brands just seem to fall short of that "special" flavor of Lea and Perrins.
Adds an intriguing "umami" background to so many soups and stir fry dishes of mine ...
