"I can’t recommend A. Meredith Walters' books enough...You don’t leave her books behind after the story has ended. These are the kinds of books you carry with you." (In The Best Worlds)

"There is no question that A. Meredith Walters is one of my favorite authors. She always writes her stories so that we can relate to the characters, they jump out of the books and into our hearts each and every time. Her books have deep meaning to them but are also sweet and sassy with some sexy to steam up the pages." (Book Addict Mumma Book Blog)

"BRILLIANT, AMAZING, GUT-WRENCHING!" (Shh Mom's Reading Book Blog)

"I am captivated by A. Meredith Walters. She writes the most beautifully flawed characters that still have you swooning. Every book she writes is an automatic buy for me." (Sawyer Bennett USA Today bestselling author of the Off Series)

This is a very hard book to review. It is defiantly not an easy book to read and I must say they're were a couple of times I almost stopped reading entirely. It's the story of Aubrey a young woman studding to be an addiction counselor and Maxx a charismatic young man who acts like he owns the world and everyone hangs on to every word he says. Aubrey had a younger sister who died of a drug overdose and is still very emotional about it. Max is a addicted to drugs and is in the counseling group that Aubrey is sitting in on. I know that Maxx is one of those people who you know is bad for you but you like him anyway. I just don't understand why Aubrey stays with him. I'm sure she has some kind of I want to save him because I couldn't save my sister complex going on, but I guess I'm just not built that way and don't get it. The drug scene she continually puts herself in and rarely confronting Maxx about his addiction. I just don't understand it. I do feel sorry for Maxx he has had a very tough childhood, but he is so deep in denial that I don't see him coming out of it. I will say this ends with a cliffhanger and I will be reading the next book to find out what Maxx decides to do with his life. I still want to warn the readers that this story is an emotional roller coaster ride. You will be frustrated, sad, angry, confused and a girls struggle to love someone who she is sure will destroy her. This story did make me think and that's why I gave it a 4 star rating.

My thoughts…

Wow! I really liked this book. I’ve only ever read one other book by this author and I DNF’d it because I couldn’t connect with the characters. That wasn’t the case with this book. I took a liking to Aubrey right away. She’s harboring a lot of guilt because she thinks she could have done more where her sister was concerned. She lost her sister to a drug overdose three years ago and she still carries this guilt around. I think this is one of the reasons she connects with Maxx so strongly.

Maxx is sort of an odd guy to me. He has some major issues. One of which is drugs. He doesn’t think he has a problem. It’s apparent from the beginning that he does though. He just can’t see it.

I think Ms Walters did a good job of showing both sides of substance abuse and how it effects those involved. At times I found my heart breaking for Maxx. At other times I would get so mad at him for doing the things he did. I guess I had a love/hate relationship with him.

Lead Me Not was a really quick read for me. Once I got started I had problems putting it down. The story truly captivated me and I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen between Aubrey & Maxx. I was a little disappointed once I reached the end and realized that there was going to be another book AND that said book wouldn’t be released until 2015 leaving things open-ended. I would have liked the story to be wrapped up in one book, but I can see why it wasn’t and I think I’m ok with this. I will be eagerly waiting for the next book to come out.

The sexual scenes are comparable to adult mainstream. They aren’t explicit in nature, but are well written. They don’t play a very big part in this story and I’m fine with that. This book has a strong storyline that stands on it’s own.

Overall, I’m really happy I gave this book a shot. I’m very excited to read the next book next year. I’ll be patiently or not so patiently waiting.

Review originally posted at The Book Enthusiast:

Lead Me Not was my first book by A. Meredith Walters, and it certainly will not be my last. This is a story that is still on my mind days after reading it. I am not kidding when I say the second I finished I hopped onto Amazon and went a little one-click crazy with the rest of Walters' books. Now I know what they say about not judging a book by its cover, but I have to take a second to say that I think this is a beautiful cover. Between the cover and the synopsis my curiosity was definitely piqued, and I was excited to dive into this book. From the first paragraph of the prologue I was hooked and didn't want to stop until I had devoured every page.

This is the beautiful yet heartbreaking story of Aubrey Duncan and Maxx Demelo. Aubrey is a college student who, after suffering the tragic loss of her sister, is looking for a way to help others in a way she couldn't help her sister. She carries around great deal of guilt about what happened and how she could have prevented it. While helping lead an addiction support group she meets Maxx. There is something that immediately draws her to him, and before she knows it she is caught up in a whole new world. I greatly admired Aubrey's compassion and desire to help others. There was no doubt that Maxx sparked a fire and passion within her, and I loved seeing her growth as a character and the way she embraced her relationship with him. When push came to shove she showed incredible strength.

Maxx is a bit of an anti-hero. As the story progressed he completely stole my heart, but I still found myself very angry with him at times.

hmmmmmmmmm I'm kinda lost for words. I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting (other than a fantastic read) but I was engrossed in the most depressing and difficult love story I've ever read. Not only did we read above the love between two people but we were surrounded with the love of a person and their drug of choice. I'm left reeling after finishing this and my heart feels heavy and I have soooooooooo many questions left unanswered and I wish I didn't have to w as it until 2015 to get my answers. Be prepared to be affected by this story!
