If you knew the situation and circumstances that made me seek out this book then you'll understand how much you need the knowledge contained in this book on leadership. I have been comfortably being a good background motivator for years. I envied leadership positions and persons thinking that they were missing a thing or two in their leadership style. After like 4 years I was promoted into management and given a major section to handle. It was a happy-confusing event.
I had to seek all types of advice from people I can trust, I got a lot of support and recommendations. I followed these all. I must say I learnt a lot from those too. This kind of summarised all I should know and have known. It also pacified me and helped develop my confidence (which it will tell you is very important).
The allegory is priceless. I wish I read this book first, well better late than never. I like the strong and encouraging voice that Daniel uses throughout this book. Not only did he use a soft easy to understand language, he made the write up quite easy to visualize thus aiding comprehension.
This is a five-star bestseller meant for people with a passion for leading right. People who want to understand what their leaders pass through can also read this up. It is truely inspiring.
I grew up in an environment where the man is supposed to be the leader. To me, ANYONE can be a leader, despite your circumstances or origins. One of the biggest issues you must overcome is to fully believe in oneself in order to pursue this. This is where the book comes into play.
I began to take notes as I read. Later on, I'd reflect on the contents I had read. I realized I had many pieces of my personal pieces I needed to solve in order to improve my leadership skills. Now, I may not be the only person who has felt the need to do this. The book helped me through those.
It makes you search within your mind and soul order to make you seek out the true leader within. We need more leaders in this world, and I'm officially ready to be that leader. I'm thankful for this book and it's impact.
I really enjoyed the allegory that the lessons in this book were centered around. Blakeslee has written an excellent resource built around solid, leadership research and teaching. This is what it takes to be a leader and how to lead well.
The second part of the book contains the model he uses in the story section and the charts found throughout the book are explained in more detail.
I have come across far too many leadership books that feel like a chore to read and are simply boring. With ‘Lead on Purpose’ I didn’t feel this way at all and can definitely say that I learned a lot more than I was expecting.
