The selection and size of the chapters is excellent. They are interesting and leave one only curious for more. In that way, the book truly facilitates thinking rather than providing a set of answers and that is a welcome addition.

I particularly enjoyed Chapter 40, Organizational Change Practices. What organization these days isn’t trying to implement change?
The first point in this chapter is that organizations approach change through collective or collaborative change approaches and within those institutionalized-leadership, organizational learning, and empowerment/shared power. The results of a 2001 study by O’Toole indicates the organizations with highest collective leadership capacity are those who used “systems” of institutionalized-leadership and change practices. In other words, enabling systems versus a single person at the top. That is a real obvious conclusion, but if you think about it, not many organizations are willing to allow change in any manner but strictly controlled from the top. The chapter goes on to credit Donald Schon, who in 1971, reached a similar conclusion regarding change implemented through “learning systems.”
Another thing I thoroughly enjoyed about this chapter was the reference to Peter Senge’s work in 1990. He stated the five essential elements must exist as an ensemble to create learning organizations: Personal mastery, mental models, shared vision, team learning, and systems thinking. I love reading Senge! His work is so easy to read.
It was when I ran into this reference for Senge’s work that I realized that each chapter has the potential to become the condensed version of other great works. With each chapter viewed individually, this book has the potential to become your reference book you will keep in your office – and use for years.
Seem like Hickman aimed as hallmark of ingenuity in the field of "contemporary leadership."
