During the past two decades, I have had the privilege of working with thousands of business people from all over the world in teaching them the most effective ways of building networks of people who could help them to grow their business, especially through qualified referrals.
But as the way we do business began to evolve and as more and more "experts" and businesses came onto the scene touting the "latest and best" ways to building fans, followers and connections (online and off), a lot of business people began to experience a problem: they built large networks both online and offline and then realized that the vast majority of people who were in their networks were not referring business to them. In essence, they were relationship rich, yet referral poor.
This book is not about business networking, per se. Instead, this book is about referral marketing, generation and acquisition -- how to motivate, activate and reward the people in your networks to give YOU the qualified referrals that YOU want -- in a predictable, controllable manner.
I wrote this book so that the solo entrepreneur or the business with a large sales team and budget can effectively generate more referrals from the people with whom they already have relationships with (clients, vendors, suppliers, family members, friends). The author writes very clearly which is a great and makes his know-how on how to generate more referrals very accessible. As a small business owner, I am constantly seeking new ways to generate new business, and this professionally written book helps to separate the myths from the reality of generating more business from referrals.
The main point of the book is about implementing simple and effective referral marketing and generating strategies, tactics, and techniques to captivate, motivate, activate, nurture, reward, and retain those people in your various networks to provide you with qualified referrals. The author delivers some excellent tips and strategies on how to maintain an effect system of creating referrals and generating business.
This is really a top notch and innovative book. Highly recommended for salespeople, entrepreneurs and marketers.
Tim Houston has captured what many entrepreneurs will see as a game changer! I especially enjoyed the section that spoke of turning the idle time that some spend in coffee shops into a gold mine of referrals. I plan on using several of the techniques but will start in the coffee shop.

As a former health food store owner I can tell you this; I wish I would've had this book, and the knowledge an excellent advice in it, when I owned my store. That was almost a decade ago, before advertising online, social media and even SMS text marketing were available, and this book STILL would have helped my wife and I a ton.
For anyone in marketing no matter the industry, the product or the service, this book should prove extremely valuable. Author Tim Houston takes the mystery (and some empty promises) out of word-of-mouth marketing and other referral methods that don't work as well as some believe they do (or at all) (I know most of them, sadly). What he then gives the reader are solid and actionable processes that can be used to garner profit-making referrals at a very economical cost.
Basically what Mr. Houston does is give any marketer the systems and processes for referrals that will make getting profitable referrals a part of the business process instead of just something that a business owner HOPES will happen.
I would highly recommend this excellent referral 'how to' guide to any marketer, salesperson or business owner, even if they are successful. Using the ideas and tactics in this book will, I truly believe, deliver excellent results.
