This is Jennifer Dawson’s second book in the Love and Other Series but this time she weaves the story of Tessa and Xavier. Tessa is a die-hard romantic who describes herself as “a bit on the curvy side, falling just barely on the right side of plump” and Xavier is a dashing trauma surgical resident who epitomizes “ultimate fantasy material”. Because they have mutual friends, Tessa and Xavier have known each other for months. She has definitely noticed him; he remembers her.
Xavier is such a good guy. When we first meet him, he is dining with his grandmother on the most romantic of holidays, Valentine’s Day where Tessa is suffering through a blind date at the same restaurant. Recognizing that Tessa needs rescuing from the scumbag date, Xavier steps right up. Theirs is the story of two who didn’t know how much they needed each other.
I have never been disappointed in a Jennifer Dawson book. Never. And you won’t be either.
Tessa is a second-grade teacher, happy with her life, and an incurable romantic. She knows she is not 10 in looks, but cute, and expects not to experience the passionate love story she reads about in Jane Austen's books. She is secretly infatuated with Xavier, a trauma surgeon resident who is the "most gorgeous man alive", but completely out of Tessa's league. She admires Xavier from the distance as she sees him picking up beautiful women during parties they both attend. Tessa and Xavier are unexpectedly thrown together and find they have much in common. During one drunken evening, Tessa throws away her inhibitions and decides to embrace her opportunity to experience Xavier's sexual skills by making out with him. Xavier is pleasantly shocked by Tessa's ability to enjoy explicit sex, and they find one night turning into daily excursions to the world of pleasure.
Jennifer Dawson has been able to squeeze the right ingredients for a successful romance in 133 pages. Tessa is a strong woman with a sure knowledge of her value, at the same time she is able to seize the opportunity of an adventure when it is presented to her in the form of a god like man. She is not intimidated by his looks, stands on her own, and just decides to enjoy the ride. Xavier knows how irresistible he can be, and uses it to his advantage around beautiful women he wants to have sex with. He realizes Tessa's value and sees her as an untenable prize, way out of his league. In this relationship, Xavier shows off as an alpha male, but he is actually a very sensitive and restless man inside. Tessa makes him calm and stronger, daring him to try to reach higher, towards the happily ever after. The explicit sex scenes are full of passion and emotional entanglements for both Tessa and Xavier.
I highly recommend this book when you need a fast fix of romance with guaranteed result of a smile on your face.
Tessa just wants one night of fun so she's hoping her blind date won't be another dud. Unfortunately that's exactly what he is. To make matters worse, Xavier Knight her big time crush, is on hand to witness the debacle. She can't believe her good fortune when Xavier comes to her rescue but she's sure he's just being nice. Someone like Xavier would never go for a simple girl like her. Or would he??
Definitely a book I recommend.
Tessa and Xavier find themselves in a situation they never would have imagined they would have been in but once they are there they realize it is very hard to go back to the way things used to be....The real question on everyone's mind should be if they could go back would they? Read and find out!
I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book
I thought that Jennifer Dawson did a great job keep the characters honest and real. I thought that Tessa was my best friend in my mind because of the things she went through... I could definitely see myself suffering through some of the crazy, funny, and embarrassing things that happen to her in this book. I loved how honest Xavier was about certain situations, it just helped to solidify his feelings in the end.
Overall I loved this book and have loved the series so far. Can't wait for more!
