In her Introductory remarks Janie addresses her readers in saying ‘As I share these quotes, stories, and songs with you, it is my deepest hope that they will help you live authentically, love without condition, calm your fear, power up your leap, lean into your gift, and realize the myriad of blessings and miracles that are magically and abundantly waiting to appear in your life.’
Outlining Janie’s habits offers insight into the journey on which the reader will embark - Act As If…, Begin It Now (Be bold – Whether giant leaps or baby steps, you can create your own reality by taking action), Dream Big, Just Imagine, Live in Gratitude, Let the Music Lift You, Laugh While You Leap, and Leap with Love. Or as Janie phrases all these 8 habits, ‘I believe that when you act as if, you will lean into your gift like never before and experience your wildest dreams. I believe that when you begin it now, doors will swing open wide for you, and a myriad of wonderful things will come your way. I believe that when you dream big, you will create an energy that will help allow blessings and miracles to appear in your life. I believe that when you just imagine, your thoughts will create your reality. I believe that the more you live in gratitude, the more things you will have to be grateful for. I believe that when you let the music lift you, you will feel like singing, even on the days when there is no song in your heart. I believe that when you laugh while you leap, you will find a greater sense of ease on your journey. And I believe that when you leap with love, you will carve the most direct path to your own peace, love, and happiness.’
Every new habit chapter included, actions, quotes from famous people, stories from both Janie’s journey and the journeys of other people, and closes with one of Janie’s songs. This is not only a gift to mankind, but also a wondrously good time in reading. Feel her. Grady Harp, September 16
The author's use of contributors' stories to illustrate her points was both a nice break in the reading and interesting. I enjoy learning what others have done to succeed (and sometimes fail), since there is usually a lesson to be learned.
She also does a nice job of presenting things that happened in her life, including what she was going through emotionally. When she's told her story, she then gives suggestions for how to make the same things happen for you.
This book was not preachy or overly pushy, which I appreciated. I personally don't like someone I don't know telling me what to do. The way this was presented was less invasive and more contemplative. (It's kind of hard to describe!) I just didn't get the "used car salesman selling you something you really don't want" vibe I get from many self-help books.
This was a quick read - you could probably finish it over two lunch breaks. It also left me with a pretty good feeling when I finished it. If you're looking for a way to jumpstart your creativity or are considering changing your path in life, you might really enjoy this book.
Janie has now followed her heart again and tells the story of how she recently decided to retire early so she could speak, write and sing full time. She now records with some of the best in Nashville and has multiple CD’s to her credit. Janie is presently traveling the country where she speaks and sings to her audiences sharing her message that it is never too early or too late to follow your heart and your passion. There are many heartwarming stories along with easy to follow suggestions on how you can discover your passion and follow your heart.
The chapters are entitled; act as if; Begin it now; Dream Big; Just Imagine; Live in Gratitude; Let the Music Lift You ; Laugh while You Leap and Leap with Love. As you can see there is a lot here to inspire you. My particular favourite is Chapter 5, ‘Live in Gratitude’; it is such a simple message, yet so easy to incorporate into one’ own life.
